Congratulations Mike Hinspeter on an impressive career milestone!!!
We are so grateful for all that you do. Congratulations on this amazing achievement!
Mike Hinspeter (Parts Manager Hertrich Acura) recently celebrated an outstanding 20 years with Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships!
Apologies a bit of a rant to express frustration and disappointment.
So, with the looming rebuild of the wife's current car and not wanting to drive one of the trucks or race cars to work and back, I finally talked the wife into going back and looking at cars.
Needless to say, she likes sport coupes. EXTREMELY disappointed with Chevrolet. We went to two different dealerships with very similar results. Confirming what I kind of already knew, but like many, did not want to believe it.
Chevy has a big fat NOTHING! Zero, Zilch, Zip, NADA to offer in a sport coupe not even a 4 door sedan. All they have now is portly SUV/CUV/EUV looking things and Trucks. Oh and the Corvette.
When I asked the salesmen at each dealership "Do you have anything used?" I was greeted with a "What do you mean?"
Surprised, I clarified and said "You know, Camaro, Corvette, even other brands Challenger, Mustang" they both actually laughed and immediately tried to steer us to a staggering $168,000 Corvette!!
I asked both of them "Is an entry level or mid level price available as that seems quite high" they both answered "No, that's pretty much the going rate" - this was from two different dealers!
VERY disappointed with you and shame on you Chevrolet for alienating a large portion of your loyal customer base.
Looks like I will not be buying anything new along with looking at other brands.
Sad, sad times if you're a loyal GM customer and an automotive enthusiast.
Shame on you General Motors!
-Signed a loyal GM customer for over 30 years soon to be a potential former customer.

**Transaction Announcement**
We are pleased to share that Kevin Nill and the team at Haig Partners served as the exclusive sell-side advisor to Duval Motor Company on the sale of its Honda, Acura and Subaru dealerships to Lithia & Driveway. This marks Lithia & Driveway's entry into the North Florida market.
Duval Motor Company, a fourth-generation, family-owned business led by CEO Hampton Graham and President Alex Graham, has been a cornerstone of the automotive industry in Jacksonville since its founding in 1916. The company’s rich history began with the establishment of Duval Ford, which has grown to become the fourth-oldest family-owned Ford dealership in the country. The sale of the Honda, Acura, and Subaru dealerships is a strategic decision enabling Duval Motor Company to concentrate its resources and efforts on expanding its Ford network to complement Duval Ford. As the most historic dealership in their portfolio, Duval Ford will continue to be the primary focus of the Graham family, ensuring that the legacy of quality and service established over a century ago remains strong.

Whenever anyone talks about Sir Ratan Tata, it always reminds me of this story.
In 1999, when Tata Motors’ passenger car division was struggling, Ratan Tata considered selling it to Ford. During a meeting in Detroit, Ford’s executives reportedly said, “You don’t know anything about the car business. Why did you start it?” That moment of humiliation could have been the end, but instead, it sparked a journey of determination.
Fast forward to 2008, the tables had turned. Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover from Ford in a $2.3 billion deal. Bill Ford’s words at the time? “You are doing us a big favor by buying JLR.”
This story always reminds me: setbacks are just setups for comebacks. It’s not about the fall, but how you rise that defines success. 💪
What’s your biggest lesson from this story? How do you turn challenges into opportunities?

American Honda provided an outlook on its U.S. automobile business for 2024 during a recent media briefing. American Honda auto sales finished 2023 at 1.3M units in sales, up 33% year-over-year as production stabilized and logistics challenges eased.
Moving into 2024, the Honda brand alone is expected to realize sales of up to 1.3 million units and the Acura brand will aim to add an additional 150,000 units. This will mean a sales increase for American Honda ranging from 10-15% compared to 2023.
American Honda is entering 2024 with strong inventory of both cars and trucks, maintaining a strong position to continue the sales momentum into 2024.

The Sale of Dealerships
Daimler's decision to sell its dealerships is a reflection of the changing consumer landscape. As online shopping and home delivery services become increasingly prevalent, the traditional dealership model is facing challenges. This shift could lead to job losses among dealership staff, including sales representatives, mechanics, and administrative personnel. However, it also presents opportunities for new roles, such as digital marketing specialists and customer service representatives.
The Closure of Factories
Volkswagen's closure of two factories is a direct response to changing market dynamics and the increasing demand for electric vehicles. While this decision will undoubtedly result in job losses, it is also a sign of the industry's transition to a new era. The closure of factories may lead to a shift in manufacturing operations to regions with more favorable conditions for electric vehicle production, potentially creating new job opportunities in these areas.
Vehicle Recalls
BMW's recall of vehicles is a common occurrence in the automotive industry, often triggered by safety concerns or technical issues. While recalls can temporarily disrupt production and lead to job losses in specific areas, such as quality control and manufacturing, they are generally not a long-term threat to job security. In fact, recalls can often create opportunities for engineers, technicians, and other professionals to address the underlying issues and improve product quality.
Overall Impact on Job Security
The combined impact of these developments on job security is complex and depends on various factors, including the specific regions affected, the nature of the jobs at risk, and the availability of alternative employment opportunities. While there is undoubtedly a risk of job losses, it is important to recognize that the automotive industry is constantly evolving. The transition to electric vehicles, the rise of autonomous driving technology, and the increasing emphasis on sustainability are all driving significant changes that could create new jobs and opportunities.
As automotive engineers, it is essential to stay informed about these developments and to adapt our skills and knowledge to meet the changing demands of the industry. By embracing new technologies and focusing on innovation, we can help to secure our own job security and contribute to the long-term success of the automotive industry.
