Mental health first aid is the support you provide to someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis or is about to experience a mental health challenge. Like physical first aid mental health first aid is a first response that is offered until professional help arrives. It is provided when there is a lack of awareness on the part of the sufferer, or when there is a delay in getting professional help. More importantly research has shown that mental health first aid works. Being a mental health first aider does not make you a counsellor or a therpist and providing mental health first aid is not making a diagnosis. It’s a skill that you learn to support someone who’s in distress. One of the skills required to be a mental health first aider is the ability to listen with empathy, without judgment and without solving the problem. Organisations that equip their employees with the skills to be a mental health first aider are more likely to have a positive work culture and less likely to lose employees to poor mental health. #RecoverNow #employeewellbeing #workplacementalhealth #mentalhealthfirstaid

June is Men's Health Month: Let's Address the Silent Crisis in Men's Mental Health As we focus on men's health this month, it's crucial to shine a light on a often-overlooked aspect: mental health. Did you know that men are four times more likely to die by suicide than women? This alarming statistic underscores a critical issue in our society - depression in men frequently goes undiagnosed and untreated. At KGI, we're committed to changing this narrative. We believe that awareness, education, and action are key to addressing this crisis. Here's how we can make a difference: 1. Recognize the Signs: Depression in men can manifest differently. Look out for increased irritability, risk-taking behavior, or substance abuse. 2. Break the Stigma: Encourage open conversations about mental health in your workplace and personal life. 3. Offer Support: If you notice a colleague or friend struggling, reach out. Sometimes, just listening can make a significant impact. 4. Get Trained: KGI offers Mental Health First Aid training to equip you with the skills to support those in need. This valuable training can be a lifesaver in both personal and professional settings. https://kgi.link/ci7 Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let's work together to create environments where men feel comfortable discussing their mental health and seeking the support they need. Join us in our mission to promote mental health awareness and support. Together, we can make a difference. #MensHealthMonth #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceMentalHealth #LeadershipInAction #KeckGrad

Mental Health First Aid is critical for any business. 1 in 5 people diagnosed with a common mental health illness do not receive professional help, for a number of reasons. This can have a significant impact on teams and businesses. Early intervention reduces those impacts and helps people to get back to work earlier, which reduces that burden. We want to be proactive in this space, so invested in developing and accrediting our broader HR team, who are now certified in Mental Health First Aid, which enables us to approach, assess and assist with any crisis, listen and communicate, give support and information and encourage our people to seek professional help and other relevant support to enable them to move up the mental health continuum. #mentalhealthawareness

⭐ Meet our Mental Health First Aider, Sarah ⭐ Looking after our mental health is important. 1 in 4 of us will experience mental health problems within our lives, but 80% say they feel unable to speak about it due to stigma and discrimination so suffer in silence. Having a dedicated Mental Health First Aider can help to improve employee knowledge and understanding about mental health and illness. Our HR Advisor, Sarah Caulfield, has recently undertaken Mental Health First Aid training and is now equipped to help those around her struggling with issues, as well as educating people on the importance of discussing mental health & promoting positive well-being. We asked Sarah why she feels it is important for companies to have trained Mental Health First Aiders... 'It's important to encourage open and honest conversations and create supportive environments to reduce stigma associated with mental health issues. When your team are feeling supported they are more positive and feel like they want to deliver. Following my training, I now feel more confident to recognise and deal with a variety of mental health issues and different needs that may arise, and can comfortably guide people in the right direction to the correct support and better well-being.' #mentalhealthawarenessweek #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthfirstaider #wellbeingatwork #northernsecurity #teamnorthern

🧠Critical Need for Mental Health Support in First Responders! First responders are on the front lines of crisis and trauma, encountering distressing situations far more frequently than the average person. By offering targeted mental health resources—such as specialized counseling, peer support, and CISM programs—this initiative aims to provide essential support and foster resilience among first responders. 💡 Why is this important? Regular exposure to trauma without adequate support can lead to burnout, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Investing in comprehensive mental health care is crucial for ensuring the well-being of those who are always there to protect and serve our communities. 🔍 Learn more about these critical support measures and how they’re making a difference: https://ow.ly/miqt50T2q12 By understanding and addressing the mental health needs of first responders, we can help them stay strong and resilient in the face of their demanding roles. 💙 #emergencyservices #police #emergency #paramedic #firefighter #ems #emslife #emergencymedicine #policeofficerlife #fireservice #emergencyresponse #firstresponder #paramedics #lawenforcement #firedepartment #paramediclife #emtlife #paramedicstudent
