**Warning: Avoid Companies That Exploit Employees** A close friend of mine recently experienced a deeply unfair situation with a company like StatusNeo . They were hired to work for a client under rigid conditions with no flexibility for taking leave. Once the client engagement ended, the company demanded to return their laptop (just because he requested a day off to celebrate his birthday ) and other equipment. Shockingly, as soon as they complied, the company ( StatusNeo ) terminated their employment without any explanation and refused to pay the remaining salary. This unethical behavior is not just exploitative but also leaves employees in a difficult and vulnerable position. Please think twice before accepting offers from such companies. Angus Measurement Services, LP Special Service Group 🏴☠️Share Knowledge Its Thursday morning January 4th here in the old Permian Basin, on the southwest edge of the Llano Estacado, off the east side of the Frankle City Highway in beautiful Gaines County, Texas. Well...today is NOT a Chamber of Commerce Day. The fur circus made short work of doing their business and hit the deck at a dead run when the wind hit them. The little blind one made it about halfway across the deck before she hit her "NOPE", turned around and headed back in the house. The weather people are promising rain, and we may get a little. You know the mantra; we are one day closer to rain. If you are in the oil and gas business and have not figured out and understand its more who you know than what you know, maybe you need to go back to your previous profession. Is that fair? Who cares. Get over it. In 1990 I had a little employment disagreement with Mobil and struck out on my own to be a full-time inspector. I had my CWI and several years experience as a welder, fabricator and inspector. I was ready to set the world on fire. It took me a few years to realize what you know is important but WHO you know has far more importance. Who you know will get you a job, work or sales. What you know will help you keep it. Oil and gas at any level, up, mid or downstream is based on having a network of people. If you are not good at networking or willing to learn how, you will not succeed in this business. Relying on headhunters and recruiters to get you a job will not help over a career. As Donkey in Shrek sang, you gotta have friends. One of the best opportunities that came my way was brought on with an inspector who I stayed in touch with for several years. In 1998 things were lean. You could not buy a job. I thought I had some prospects on the line that did not pan out. I called him and told him my situation. I was in Phoenix chasing a job having landed an interview through the resume with a hiring agency route. He was building the terminal on the original Longhorn Pipeline project in El Paso. I stopped off at the project and talked to him. I was desperate. We were $450 dollars from broke. He picked up the phone and called someone in Tulsa then told me to go home pack my bags and get ready to go to work. I got home and my answering machine had a call with a name and number. I called it and the guy on the other end of the line told me to be in Tulsa the next Monday and I had a project in Omaha. He said he had been told to hire me and I better measure up. I guess I did because that gig wound up lasting almost 5 Years. Were there people as or more qualified than me? Straight! But someone picked up a phone, made a call and put me at the head of the line. It was up to me to make and keep the job, but it was another person who helped me. NEVER let a position get filled you applied or interviewed for defeat you. If they decide to hire via the “buddy system” and that person was hired on that alone they will either be what they were paying for or less either way that doesn’t lessen your value for the next project! It just means you were being derived from a situation you didn’t need to be in! Chin up head up we’re not even near kickoff season! Thursday thoughts & learning curves.. So this week I had a role with an Offshore client looking for last minute labour for a project that had been let down with 2 days notice to find the right candidates. We were reactive & sent some excellent candidates through despite not managing to fill the role. Initially I felt disheartened.. HOWEVER.. We are new to the Offshore market & ultimately the crux of the 'failure' I felt was because I DIDN'T ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS. As our director Sarah Roads always says 'no question is a silly question'. A lesson that is resonating with me. It's ok to be new to all of this, to not know all the facts & wordings- All you have to do is ask questions no matter how silly you think you may sound. In the end, our client was beyond helpful whilst I fired questions at them without fear of sounding silly or clueless, the client appreciated our willingness to react & learn from this experience, hopefully sparking the beginning of a great working relationship. Lessons learnt: Everyone starts somewhere. As long as you're willing to ask questions, learn from past experiences & grow, you will succeed in the end. People often ask, “why did I go from maintaining aircraft to recruitment?” Although the outcomes are different, the process is more similar than one would think. 🛬 Aircraft has a fault / client has an open position 🎙️Discuss with the aircrew the flight parameters at the time of the fault / discuss with the client what they are looking for 🤔 Start the fault finding process / start a thorough search process based on the clients brief 🔧 Find the fault and replace or repair the defective component / provide qualified candidate/s that meets the brief 👨🏻🔧Perform a functional test of the system / support the interview process 🛫Aircraft is now serviceable / client is happy and the role is filled What’s the moral of the story? Methodical processes are transferable and provide positive outcomes. Or Aircraft maintainers should move into recruitment… 😂
