Here are some facts: - 80% of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest is due to cattle ranching. - For producing 1 kg of wheat requires significantly less water than producing 1 kg of beef (about 1,645 liters for wheat vs. up to 15,415 liters for beef). - The livestock sector is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for approximately 14.5% of all anthropogenic GHG emissions according to the FAO. - Plant-based diets produce 49% less greenhouse gas emissions than meat-based diets. - Journal of the American Heart Association found that plant-based diets can reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 52%. 🌱 Plants are full of good stuff that keeps us healthy, reducing sickness and aging. The 2023 State of Food and Agriculture unveils the importance of understanding patterns of Hidden Cost of Agrifood systems. The said costs encompasses elements such as climate change, natural resource degradation and unaffordability of healthy diets.  The report points out the new True Cost Accounting (TCA) methodology that helps to depict elements of the hidden cost. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of dry, wet, and homemade pet diets on greenhouse gas emission, land use, acidifying emission, eutrophying emissions, freshwater withdrawals, and stress-weighted water use. The wet diets were responsible for the highest impact, and dry diets were the type of diet that least impacted the environment, with a positive correlation between the metabolizable energy provided by animal ingredients and the environmental impact.

Day 5 …when we choose to eat meat in our daily life’s, it has so many effects on us and the environment at large, consumption of too much meats can leads to cancer, heart diseases and so many more, it can also generates pollution of different kinds , leads to consumption of lands that should be used in an alternative means, it also generates greenhouse gaseous emissions, so I’m urging us to a embark on a meat consumption free week ranging from Monday-Friday, and we should also adopt the consumptions of legumes, vegetables and food crops for proteins ..we should also monitor the sizes of meat we consume. #ECO30impact #ECO30challenge #SDGs

How can my #diet affect others whom I don’t know. Our eating preferences are creating conditions that threaten the survival of lakhs of people !! This new study by the World Health Organization throws light on how our eating habits are responsible for the untimely #death of lakhs of people. How? #Animal agriculture for meat products is a leading cause of air pollution that is responsible for the untimely death of over 4 mn people globally. Did you know that one-third of global #greenhousegasemissions arise from food systems, with animal farming being a major contributor. While #methane often receives the centre-stage in this matter, ammonia from livestock forms another key ingredient. Ammonia reacts with other pollutants to hang as fine particulate matter in the air, which can be deadly for the organisms #breathing it in. If we shifted our food choices, to healthier, more plant-based ones could prevent up to 236,000 premature deaths around the world. This has another positive rub off in boosting the global GDP by over 1%, a gain of US $1.3 trillion by increasing workforce #productivity– simply by improving air quality. Shifting to healthier and more plant-based diets offers a wide range of benefits beyond clean air. These benefits include a lower risk of diet-related diseases esp the cardio-vascular diseases. Plant-based revolution isn't just about breathing easily. Less meat means less greenhouse gas, less land dedicated to animal feed, and less water splashed around.
