Last week the folks at PRODUCTION EXPERT kindly asked me to participate in a discussion on the report released by the Women and Equalities Committee that focuses on misogyny in music (https://lnkd.in/e_KZK-eN). Unfortunately, it is an upsetting read that is unsurprising to anyone clued into the realities of women working in this industry. However, we keep it pretty light in the podcast for those wanting to give it a listen. While I am not a technical or creative woman working in audio (I am not the person to ask to record something or mix it), for the past decade I have had the opportunity to meet, work with, and befriend many women in these roles across music, broadcast, and post-production. In listening to their stories and experiences I've come up with three rules that are easy to adopt for anyone working in the industry. The report itself has great recommendations for governing bodies and institutions, especially those looking to address harassment. Mine are slightly more light-hearted but come from knowing that even small changes help. 1. Assume the woman in the room is the technical or creative person you are there to meet (Dubbing mixer, FOH engineer, Mastering engineer, etc). You'll never offend anyone by assuming they are more technical than they are. 2. Have patience for when inevitably something goes wrong with the audio equipment and again assume that the woman you are working with can fix the issue. Things go wrong all the time even with pretesting equipment or running a program that's been used a hundred times, having a man do it doesn't make it less likely to happen and they are no more likely to be able to fix it than the professional you are already working with. 3. If a woman has not offered you water, coffee, tea, etc don't ask her for it, especially if she is the only woman in the room. #womeninaudio #musicproduction #postproduction #broadcast https://lnkd.in/e6fVpXYC

Every day, the discourse surrounding the identity of those who claim ownership of the city and those to whom the city truly belongs takes center stage in our discussions, especially in the context of Bangalore. The ongoing struggle among individuals and communities for their legitimate spaces within the city is a compelling topic that merits deeper exploration. In this endeavor, we seek to initiate a nuanced conversation around the intricate dynamics of this ongoing tussle for space and identity in Bangalore. You can listen to our podcast titled 'Us Vs Them' exploring this. It's a collaborative work between my batchmate, Shreya Yadav, and me. https://lnkd.in/gHdpuE6j

Podcast, we dive into a thought-provoking discussion on the intersection of two creative industries: visual arts and music. Alongside Rocket Caleshu, my co-host Jonathan T. D. Neil and I reflect on recent interviews with some of the most interesting people in the space—Jewel, Yotam Rosenbaum (Earbits), and Jeff Ponchick (Repost Network and Mogul). 🎧 Recently listened to a Louis Theroux podcast featuring Tan France from Queer Eye on Spotify. Noticed a new accessibility feature on some podcasts, making it easier to follow along by providing integrated subtitles. A great addition for individuals with hearing impairments and personally found it helpful for visual reinforcement, reducing cognitive load, and improving vocabulary and spelling. 👀🧠📚 They have also seamlessly included this into the desktop and mobile design. Additionally, this feature has been extended to some artists, essentially turning Spotify into an on-the-go karaoke machine. A great example of how an accessibility feature can benefit multiple users simultaneously and be fun. #Accessibility #SpotifyUpdate #UserExperience

From what started as Victorian style garments, I look at the historical reasons for Classical Music's fashion aesthetic, and why it hasn't really moved on. I’lla chat how Yuja, Khatia, Kennedy and co (including some flutes) are bucking the trend, and why you maybe should too. #classicalmusic #flute #podcast #podcaster #podcasting #videopodcast
