We welcome today's announcement by the Department of Health and Social Care that they will hold a review into the statutory duty of candour for health and social care providers in England. The statutory duty of candour is intended to ensure that healthcare providers are open and transparent with the public. It sets specific requirements for organisations to follow when things go wrong with care and treatment. Earlier this year the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman highlighted concerns around the implementation of duty of candour and called for a review to assess its effectiveness in their report 'Broken trust: making patient safety more than just a promise' (Link ▶ https://lnkd.in/ehSWm9Pc). In our response to this report, we supported this recommendation (Link ▶ https://lnkd.in/eybAADZe). As part of reviewing problems with compliance, we believe that there are also broader questions that also need to be addressed concerning how the implementation of this is monitored and what remediation and redress is available to patients and the families when these obligations are not met. We also believe that this review should look at how the duty of candour is being implemented in light of the introduction of the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), given that this represents a significant change to the NHS’s approach to incident investigation. You can find the Terms of Reference for this review on the hub below: https://lnkd.in/eDq6nwZs #pslhub #patientsafety #avoidableharm #dutyofcandour #safetyculture #transparency

Insightful read. Recommendation for all my clinical colleagues to read and digest, especially as we embark with the PSIRF and the transition to RADAR. #patientsafety #patientsfirst #families #transparency #openness #honesty #circlehealthgroup

Update regarding our 11/12/23 Call to Action: Overall, we made good headway at the capital yesterday (November 14, 2023). Unfortunately, the senate healthcare workshop ran an hour over and we were not able to speak directly to the entire committee during the proceedings. However, we were able to meet with and talk to many influential lawmakers to share our initiatives and how we can be part of the solution to Florida's healthcare workforce crisis. In the workshop, a panel of 6 healthcare workforce experts spoke about innovative ways and proposed solutions to this crisis. Unfortunately, this panel did not include an APRN, we are working to have an APRN representative for future panels. We thank all members and non-members for answering our call to action so quickly! We had over 400 providers respond. Those 400 clinics across the state of Florida are caring for over 500,000 Floridians by autonomous APRNs. At the current rate of information, it's reflecting only 20% are affiliated with a physician in some capacity as an employee of the clinic. In case you didn't get an opportunity to put in your own clinic information, we are leaving the form so you can add your practice information using this form -
