"Sometimes our systems are buried underground or hidden in a mechanical room, out of sight. But when the community learns about the benefits of these systems, we see a lot of engagement... Communities get inspired by what their neighboring community has done — and that inspiration and excitement spreads." In this Quick Take with Andy DeRocher, PE, he discusses his path to engineering and renewable energy, communicating with and learning from clients, the technology driving our energy future and more. Integration of Renewable Energy in Construction Integration of renewable energy sources is increasingly becoming a cornerstone of modern building design, driven by the need to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency If renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal inclusion in architecture, enabling buildings to generate their own clean energy, reducing reliance on traditional energy grids. Solar Power: Solar panels are the most common form of renewable energy added to buildings. Advances in photovoltaic (PV) technology have led to the development of efficient and attractive solar panels. These can be placed on rooftops, façades, even as part of buildings glassware, blending seamlessly with the design to create greater energy Wind power: Although mostly associated with large installations, small wind turbines are now being incorporated into the design of windy buildings in windy areas These devices can be installed roofs or incorporated into the building structure for additional energy. Geothermal Systems: Heating and cooling is done using geothermal energy using constant surface temperature. Buildings equipped with geothermal heat pumps can achieve significant energy savings, as these systems are less expensive than traditional HVSC heat pumps. Energy storage: To make better use of renewable energy, buildings are increasingly being designed with energy storage solutions such as advanced batteries. This allows for the storage of excess energy generated during peak electricity production, providing a stable grid even when renewables are not actively producing electricity #RenewableEnergy #SustainableDesign #GreenBuilding #SolarPower #WindEnergy #GeothermalEnergy #EnergyEfficiency #NetZero #SmartBuildings #BIPV #SustainableArchitecture #BuildingDesign #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction

Are you a builder or an architect looking for ways to integrate energy storage systems into your projects? Energy storage systems (ESS) are becoming a necessary component of modern life. They provide a reliable source of backup power and give residents more control over energy usage. But retrofitting homes with ESS can be costly and complicated due to space requirements, replacement of existing equipment, and other considerations. SEAC’s Storage Snapshot Working Group has put together a document on how to make new construction energy storage ready and how to make retrofitting energy storage more cost effective. Building project costs encompass both design and implementation expenses, as well as ownership costs incurred throughout the project’s life cycle. Energy consumption analysis during the design phase can significantly reduce energy consumption and associated costs. Global energy consumption concerns include supply constraints, resource depletion, and environmental impacts. Buildings are major contributors to global energy consumption. This study investigated the relationship between layout dimensions and solar energy utilization in a complex to provide design guidelines for maximizing solar energy utilization. #architecture #solarenergy #sustainablearchitecture #environmentalimpacts #buildingprojects #lifecycleassesment

Engineering Down Under 🔩 – Victoria’s Secret Sauce – Our Sunshine! Victoria’s sunlight is ideal for producing energy and is a key part of our state’s move to clean, renewable energy. $480 million from the REZ Fund has been invested in 12x Stage One projects to strengthen and modernise the state’s grid. Renewable energy has reached 37.8% of Victoria’s electricity generation – over twice as much as 5 years ago. Meeting Victoria's renewable energy and storage targets will bring substantial benefits to the state. From 2023 to 2035, these targets are expected to contribute approximately $9.5 billion in net present value to Victoria's economy and create around 59,000 two-year jobs. The Winton Solar Farm contributes 200,000 MWh/Year to the National Electricity Market, equivalent to the amount of energy needed to power approximately 52,000 households every year. Find out how Balpara was involved in the sub-transmission line design package of the 66kV transmission line between the Winton Solar Farm Substation and the Glenrowan Terminal Station. https://lnkd.in/g-c26p9H #engineeringdownunder
