Last year MATES in Construction QLD & NT worked with the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing to look at what factors caused construction workers stress. The People at Work Construction Survey is a straight forward toolbox for construction work environments to give real insight into what hazards might be impacting a construction team. Tangible WHS adjustments can really assist in alleviating these work hazards based on evidence. Summer is finally here 🌞 and it is that time of year when we start looking at recharging our batteries. There are also a lot of Health and Safety events happening within the Construction Industry at the moment, so it is a busy time for everyone. This may well mean that key staff are away, so the burden for health and safety falls on a limited number of personnel. Make sure your business is covered and that you have processes in place for your employees to follow. Perhaps, before the holidays are in full swing, carry out some refresher training so all team members are up to date. You may even identify some gaps in knowledge that need filling! Holidays are key to ensuring staff run ‘at their best’ allowing them to come back to work refreshed and ready to go. Personal wellbeing is also important, so, creating an environment that actively promotes a state of contentment, benefiting both employees and your organisation is a must. Investing in employee wellbeing can lead to increased resilience, better employee engagement, reduced sickness absence and higher performance and productivity. You could even consider encouraging regular social events to enhance morale and boost teamwork. The aim is to ensure that the business continues running effectively and safely regardless of who is on leave.
