Meet our Team Series: 🤝 We're excited today to spotlight Mikołaj Weber, our talented Lab Student Assistant. Currently completing his MSc in Pharmaceutical Design and Engineering at DTU, Mikołaj brings a deep passion for laboratory work and enthusiasm to broaden his knowledge in various scientific areas.🔬 Beyond his contributions to our science team and his commitment to his studies, Mikołaj is full of surprises. Back in Poland, he used to take care of a rich "forest room" full of plants, a peaceful space he often misses here in Denmark.🌱 And just when you think you’ve seen it all… Mikołaj also enjoys crafting art compositions and jewellery using copper wires (take a sneak peek at one of his pieces, a thoughtful gift for one of our colleagues 🐭). 👉🏼 Connect with Mikołaj Weber!

✨ Currently in the process of writing my European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant proposal, with the deadline fast approaching on October 15! ✨ Here are a few insights from the journey so far: 🚀 Unparalleled challenge and opportunity: I've worked on up to five project proposals a year, but the ERC is in a league of its own – prestigious, demanding, and filled with possibility. 💡 Realizing my progress: This process has made me truly see how far I’ve come as a researcher. I’m generating ideas on a completely different level compared to my earlier career stages. 🧪 Incredible support at the Kemijski inštitut - National Institute of Chemistry: Here, I have the freedom to explore my research in my own way, which fuels my passion and creativity. 🔄 Breaking away from outdated methods: The support I’ve received for introducing new ways of working, powered by the Qx app, has been remarkable. It helps me accelerate the development and testing of my research ideas. 🎯 Ambitious ERC ideas: With Quipnex, my approach to research is fundamentally different, offering far more possibilities. This allows me to develop ERC project ideas at a level that might seem excessive at first glance, but truly reflects the innovation and ambition I’m excited to pursue.

🌍 International Research Collaboration: A Successful Visit to Technical University Ilmenau 🌍 We are thrilled to share that our PhD student, Zvonimir Lipšinić, has just completed a productive three-week research visit to the Department of Product and Systems Engineering at the Technical University Ilmenau. The visit was an important step in furthering our joint work on a research paper focused on Model-Based System Engineering and Sustainability. Hosted by Prof. Stephan Husung, Zvonimir had the opportunity to not only contribute to the collaborative research but also gain valuable insights into the tools used at TU Ilmenau, particularly Cameo Systems Modeler. This collaboration also opened up interesting discussions that will play a key role in shaping the direction of Zvonimir’s PhD thesis. The visit also included engaging knowledge exchange sessions with other PhD students from TU Ilmenau, Zirui Li and Faizan Faheem, exploring topics such as knowledge graphs and SysML v2. Furthermore, Zvonimir had the chance to meet with Prof. Husung and Prof. David Inkermann from TU Clausthal to discuss and explore potential research opportunities that could strengthen the collaboration between the institutions. A heartfelt thanks to Prof. Husung and the team at TU Ilmenau for their warm welcome and unwavering support throughout the visit. We look forward to the next steps in our collaboration! #researchcollaboration #systemengineering #sustainability #phdjourney #TUIlmenau #academicpartnerships #knowledgeexchange

PhD Student at ETHZ & EMPA | MSCA Fellow | M.Sc in Industrial Sustainable Chemistry | Interested in Pharma and Nanomaterials Innovation 🌱
⚕ Last week at the Oslo University Hospital and Oslo Cancer Cluster, we met for a Melomanes meeting focused on advancing melanoma therapy 🧬👥, organized by Cécilia Ménard-Moyon and Marion Roullet! 🌿 We discussed the safety and sustainability of emerging nanoparticle technologies and the traditional pharma sector. #SSbD #SafetybyDesign #Sustainability 🌊 Did you know? Up to 80% of drug-active ingredients can end up in wastewater without being metabolized. Studies have found over 130 pharmaceuticals, including antitumor agents and antibiotics, at concerning concentrations in European waters, particularly in Germany 🇩🇪. ⏩ Remember, the fight against cancer also involves combating the environmental presence of harmful chemicals (including pharmaceuticals) and pollutants in our water, air, and soil. #GreenChemistry 🔬 New technologies like nanoparticles, are simultaneously potentially more effective but also more unpredictable, and still require extensive studies to determine if they are safe enough. #NanoparticleSafety Thanks to Ayush Shukla and his supervisor, Michiel Van Oudheusden for their workshop exploring ethics and self-awareness! NovaMechanics Ltd for the data management workshop 🌐 and Sofia Gaio for the inspiring discussions about communication! #Ecotoxicity #Toxicity #SafeandSustainablebyDesign #Pharma #CancerTeraphy #PharmaceuticalInnovation #SustainableHealthcare
Third consortium meeting of the Melomanes project at the Oslo University Hospital. Very delighted to see many interactions between the partners and great progress by the doctoral researchers in their individual research projects. 👏

📢 Check the latest paper in the Journal of Materials Research! 👩🏻🔬🧑🏻🔬 The paper is by Bogna Sztorch, Julia Głowacka, Robert E. Przekop, and Bogdan Marciniec from the Center for Advanced Technologies. The remaining co-authors are Dariusz Brząkalski (former employee of CZT UAM) and Eliza Romańczuk-Ruszuk from Politechnika Białostocka. 📲 https://t.co/9eWAvBBhHJ 📄 The paper describes the impact of organofunctional spherosilicates on the mechanical properties of polylactide. The research focused on enhancing the materials to broaden their range of applications. It was proven that organosilicon compounds can significantly improve critical mechanical parameters even at low modifier concentrations.

I recently attended the 3rd UD International Scientific Conference at the University of Debrecen, Hungary, held on May 16, 2024; and it was spectacular. 👏 👏 The atmosphere, the harmony, the way science is expressed, and how it demonstrates a suitable environment for acquiring knowledge, wisdom, and above all, a desire to develop science and technology, as well as to create impacts on our world and significant changes so that science becomes clearer and more effective every day to meet our human needs. And during this event, not only could I learn a lot, but I could also experience what science is capable of doing and broaden my worldview regarding future events and scientific advancements, which every passing day awakens in me the desire to grow and continue growing in knowledge. Therefore, I challenge all of you to open your eyes and minds to science and to always seek knowledge. As the old proverb says, 'you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' The only way to be free is by seeking knowledge. So always seek knowledge, because knowledge will always make us grow, flourish, and bear fruit.
