Introducing #Phones4Food, an innovative initiative combining e-waste recycling with hunger relief efforts in the Waterloo region. 🤝🥘 With every device collected through Phones for Food, $5 is donated towards feeding our community, thanks to our partnership with the Food Bank Of Waterloo Region That's equivalent to providing 10 meals per donation! 🙌 Not only does this initiative help combat hunger, but it also promotes responsible e-waste disposal practices. LinkedIn friends, I need your help on a special project as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday. The ask: please share this project with your networks 🙏 Food insecurity affects ~17M households in the United States according to the USDA -- including more than 3 million kids. That includes thousands of students in Durham's elementary schools. While we have a patchwork of federal, state, and local programs to help with summer breaks / after school / weekends, **in North Carolina there is no program to help during the 2-week winter break** when kids are home and cannot access school-based food programs 😱 So back in 2015, local educator Turquoise LeJeune Parker started a food drive to help the students in her class fill that gap. Her project has grown every year since then, to the point where it now provides over 5,000+ students in 12 elementary schools with a bag of groceries for the break. The *9th* Annual Bull City Foodraiser is happening December 5-9 in a couple weeks! But there's a problem: our fundraising efforts in past years were rooted in Twitter, where I had a pretty sizable reach. In light of current events, unfortunately that's no longer viable -- we're still way behind 😕 Thankfully a philanthropist who does a lot of work in this space, Brian Joseph, has offered to match every single dollar we raise, $1-for-$1, up to $75K. That's where you come in 🙂 We've already had more than 120 folks donate, and we would like to include you and your friends in that list! 😄 Your donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of everything we receive gets spent on this project. Not sure if this is a good place to survey #EmergencyManagers, but anyone want to share your going rate for Shelf Stable Meals. #IAEM International Association of Emergency Managers We are comparing the use of Shelf Stable Meals (Meals Ready to Eat) to actual hot meal production costs by nonprofit entities. I am interested in the cost comparison especially as it relates to local emergency managers finding local partners to help in meal production, aka houses of worship, community centers and CBOs. Would prefer this NOT to be a Vendor based survey, but if you want to share your GSA Shelf Stable Meal price, have at it. Clearly we have learned that MREs (pictured below) cost way more and may impact our national security readiness so I won't go there...
