"It's really comforting for us as a family to help people." Since 2018, HIAS has collaborated with Airbnb.org, and its predecessor program, Airbnb Open Homes, to provide emergency accommodation to refugees, asylum seekers and other people in need of a welcoming place to stay. In the last six years, the program has supported close to 60,000 people in Guatemala, the U.S., Ecuador, Poland, Colombia, Peru, and Guyana. In Guatemala, HIAS works with carefully selected hosts to make sure that participants are protected, comfortable and settled into their place. For Airbnb superhost Jorge* and his family, providing his apartment to people in need has brought unexpected benefits to their lives. “We want to help them, and we want them to forget about everything that they’ve gone through for a while. I want my children to grow up and learn about the importance of helping others. They accompany my wife and I in this entire process.” From the beginning of the program until May 2024, 136 people across Guatemala received emergency accommodation thanks to the partnership. https://lnkd.in/g8FtXgnW

Nau Mai Rā, Glad You’re Here. We are celebrating Welcoming Week – Te Wiki o Manaaki this week from 6 – 15 September 2024 across Aotearoa New Zealand. Aotearoa New Zealand is one of the most diverse countries in the world. With over 200 different ethnicities, our diversity is our strength. It is what makes us a vibrant and attractive place to be. Welcoming Week is a time to showcase and celebrate how communities across Aotearoa New Zealand are working to be more welcoming places for all. Welcoming Communities is a year-round effort, but this September during Welcoming Week, we are shining a spotlight on this important initiative. Te Waharoa ki ngā Hapori Welcoming Communities is a settlement programme that supports local councils and their communities to create welcoming and inclusive environments for newcomers – recent migrants, former refugees and international students. It involves local residents in developing, delivering and participating in welcoming activities. This approach creates communities where everyone can belong, participate, contribute and thrive. It helps increase social engagement, build social connections and grow social inclusion. This generates economic, social, civic and cultural benefits for the whole community. The Community Refugee Sponsorship pathway relies heavily on this concept. Sponsored refugees receive support from community groups (Approved Sponsors), which generates a positive ripple effect in the way they are welcomed into their new communities. You, too, can create an environment for newcomers in your community and neighbourhood where everyone can belong, participate, contribute and thrive. Check out the events happening this week: https://lnkd.in/gRTjCFzk If your community wants to be more welcoming, check out this resource for ideas: https://lnkd.in/eRgECbtg #welcomingcommunities #welcoming #community #inclusion

When I arrived in Canada, I recognized early on that finding my 'village'—would be essential to successfully adapting to life in a new country. For many immigrants, the transition can be challenging, and having a network of people who understand the nuances of integration is invaluable. That’s why my friend, a fellow Dominican Makisha Breezie, and I established Caribbean People In Sault Ste. Marie. Our aim was to introduce the rich Caribbean culture to the city, while also providing a space where individuals could connect with their heritage and build meaningful relationships in their new environment. Within this group, we have been able to: 1. Refer and support one another in identifying career opportunities that align with our professional skills and aspirations. 2. Share essential resources to aid in navigating the immigration process and settling into the community. 3. Foster a robust network that celebrates our Caribbean identity while embracing the opportunities that come with life in Canada. Finding your village as an immigrant is not only about overcoming the challenges of settling in a new country—it is about establishing a foundation for long-term success, both personally and professionally. Have you found your community in Canada? Whether you're new here or interested in learning more about the Caribbean culture, we invite you to connect and grow with us. The Desire To Migrate From West Africa Spain's Canary Islands are seeing an increasing number of West Africans taking a perilous leap of faith across the sea to the Canaries. The number of landings has skyrocketed by more than 1,000% in January alone compared to the same time last year. We're talking about 7,270 souls braving the Atlantic's unforgiving waves, up from a mere 566 in January 2023. This archipelago, usually buzzing with tourists, is now the epicentre of a migration phenomenon, setting a record with 39,910 arrivals last year. El Hierro, the tiniest dot in this island, saw more new arrivals than its entire population of 9,000 in 2023. Dubbed the deadliest route to Spain, this Atlantic voyage claimed 6,007 lives last year, according to the rights group Walking Border. We are not recommending such drastic action. If you want to find out how you can legitimately secure residency in another country then talk to me. We offer a plethora of residency options from the Carribean and the United States through to numerous locations in Europe. Unlike these poor souls for those with the economic wherewithal migrating shouldn't be such a drastic step. Contact me by Whatsapp +230 5502 8583 or by email at andrew.hosking@holbornassets.com

🌍🏠 Celebrating World Refugee Day: Embracing the Theme of "Our Home" 🏠🌍 Hey LinkedIn community! 👋 As we commemorate World Refugee Day on June 20th, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound theme of "our home" and its significance in our lives, both personally and professionally. As a Finance Business Partner, I see first-hand how the principles of stability, support, and community play a crucial role in our organizations, much like they do in our homes. 🏡💼 🏠 Creating a Safe Haven: Just as a home provides a sense of security and belonging, our workplaces should be safe havens where every team member feels valued and supported. This World Refugee Day, let's draw inspiration from the resilience and strength of refugees who, despite losing their homes, rebuild their lives with hope and determination. 🌟💪 🤝 Fostering Reciprocity and Support: In our roles, whether in finance or any other field, fostering a culture of reciprocity and mutual support is essential. When we invest in our colleagues, offer mentorship, and create opportunities, we build a workplace that mirrors the warmth and inclusivity of a true home. This not only drives individual success but also strengthens the entire organization. 🔗📈 🌍 Global Responsibility: World Refugee Day reminds us of our collective responsibility to extend empathy and support beyond our immediate circles. By supporting initiatives that aid refugees and displaced individuals, we contribute to a global community where everyone has the opportunity to find or rebuild their home. 🏠🌐 📈 Our Role in Finance: As a Finance Business Partner, I am committed to ensuring that our financial strategies reflect these values of inclusivity and support. Whether it's through responsible budgeting for community projects or investing in employee well-being programs, every decision can help create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all. 💡💰 Let’s honour World Refugee Day by embracing the spirit of "our home" in all aspects of our lives. Together, we can create spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to thrive. 🌟🏠 #WorldRefugeeDay #OurHome #Leadership #Reciprocity #FinanceBusinessPartner #CommunitySupport #GlobalResponsibility

⭐️ Dear friends ⭐️, Today, I would like to share some fascinating data we've recently analysed from our various registration forms. 🌍 We have recorded residents from 73 different nationalities, representing 37.8% of the world’s countries, living in Southend-on-Sea and its surrounding areas. This leads me to some interesting questions: ❓ How do residents from 73 different countries influence our local culture, cuisine, festivals, and social norms? ❓ How well integrated are the different communities? ❓ What factors contribute to Southend attracting people from so many countries? ❓ How do migrants and refugees contribute to the local economy and workforce in Southend? ❓ What entrepreneurial activities or businesses have been established by residents from diverse backgrounds? These questions and more highlight the rich diversity of our community and the potential for further growth and integration. 🤝 I invite you to share your thoughts and ideas on how we can make the most of our diversity and strengthen our community in Southend. What can we do together to make Southend-on-Sea an even better place for everyone? 💬 Comment below with your insights and suggestions.
