[Did you know?] HouseInc (2024-2027) will investigate housing inequality, with an emphasis on energy poverty and examine how housing inequality impacts leisure, mobility, employment and health. Social justice is at the heart of HouseInc and the project will support the most vulnerable communities by identifying the systemic barriers to housing equality, focusing on vulnerable communities living in Eastern European communities or those that have migrated from Eastern Europe, especially Ukrainians. By taking a holistic approach, HouseInc will provide solutions that aim to relieve the burden of housing inequality in 4 marginalised communities in Europe (Roma communities (in Czech Republic and Romania) as well as Ukrainian refugees (in Italy) and migrants from Eastern Europe (in Germany). The partners will conduct qualitative research in these pilots to identify drivers in marginalised communities and develop and categorise pathways of interlinkages. Eurocities has recently shared a video to remind that cities stand with Ukraine and will continue to support Ukrainian refugees. "#CitieswithUkraine - the voice of refugees". Since the war began, thousands of Ukrainians have lost their lives, families have been torn apart, and communities have been displaced, forced to flee their homes in search of safety and shelter. In response, cities across Europe have welcomed and integrated millions of Ukrainian refugees, as well as providing funding, aid and equipment to their sister cities in Ukraine. https://lnkd.in/dgq5a7GP and read more: https://lnkd.in/eXMiP3sB

💗 On #InternationalDayofFamilies, we think of all the refugees who are prevented from being with their families and denied the right to family unity because of inhumane asylum policies. 🔵 𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐔 𝐭𝐨: 👉 Broaden the scope of family reunification (for sponsors and beneficiaries) 👉 Apply more favourable conditions to all beneficiaries of international protection, without time limits 👉 Ensure adequate support to sponsors and their families throughout the procedure 👉 Provide families with rights identical to and independent of sponsors 👉 Establish effective alternative pathways to family unity 🔵 Refugee families belong together and therefore, we encourage you to vote this June 6-9 at the #EUelections2024 for an inclusive Europe. #EUisU

The government’s announcements today on asylum are out of step with the national mood, as we’ve seen from the thousands of people showing their desire to see a compassionate welcome for refugees in the UK over the last few weeks. We urgently need the government to create safe routes to the UK and an asylum policy that is compassionate, fair and does not allow asylum-seekers and refugees to be used as scapegoats. Today’s announcements are just more of the cruel and punitive approaches the previous government used. An approach that divides us, and has devastating consequences - as we’ve seen in recent weeks, causing so much distress among the young people with whom we work. We all deserve better than this - refugees and people seeking safety, the thousands of people who came out in onto the streets in support of refugees and against hate, and our communities who want to be able to live well together.
