Hickory Aviation Museum’s Post

From a stash of Harrier photos I've recently taken custody. Originally, this Siddely AV-8A Harrier XW-653 was first flown in October 1971, and then transferred to the USMC in December 1971 and assigned to VMA-513 and with BuNo 158393. From history, this aircraft possibly had a serious mishap but was repaired and continued flying until 1986 when it went to The Boneyard. (McDonnell Douglas Photo, February 1974). Our AV-8B Harrier II Plus is tucked away in preservation storage until the new building is finished and we move aircraft inside. There is a great opportunity for a business enterprise to sponsor this beautiful aircraft. #av8aharrier #harrier #hawkersiddely #jet #jets #airplane #airplanes #aircraft #aviation #aviationdaily #aviationgeek #aviationgeeks #avgeek #avgeeks #avnerd #aviationlovers #aviationhistory #aviationphotography #aviationphoto #aviationphotos #usmc United States Marine Corps #vma513 #hickorync #hickoryaviationmuseum #mcdonnelldouglas Friends of Naval Aviation, Inc.

Wooden ships and iron men. The AV-8A brought that notion back into vogue. It was every bit a wooden ship and most unforgiving of the slightest transgression. The AV-8B was a bit less taxing.
