GREAT topic of conversation, Huong N.! 👏 Maybe we should do an Ichi Sounding Board on how to prepare for the unforeseen when putting on events 🤔 📣 Liz Lathan, CMP Nicole Osibodu, XOXO Kamryn Bryce #clubichi #ichigoichie #insiders #shoutout #conversation #eventprofs
I've been thinking a lot about the "nature of the beast" in events Specifically situations or things #eventprofs cannot control or avoid no matter how much we try: -- Last minute changes -- Rising in costs (and don't tell me about negotiations, I am the queen of negotiations, and YET prices are STILL high. For example, a PREMIUM photographer's hourly rate is $500 + when it used to be $200 per hour.) -- Union labor (say no more... It brings out something in me 🤣 ) -- Taxes... on literally almost everything -- Hotel gratuity and service charges (2 separate %'s application on the base cost of food) -- Attrition -- Weather - Outdoor events are particularly vulnerable to weather conditions such as rain, wind, or extreme temperatures, which can impact attendee experience and logistics. For example, I was going to go to Austin next week for the eclipse but now it's raining there. #cancelled -- Technical glitches (on stage) - We can say we will do our best to prevent technical glitches, but if a panel on an LED wall decides to glitch... that is completely out of our control. -- Travel - We've experienced flight delays and cancellations causing an speaker to cancel or be late, and you just have to roll with the punches. -- Food complaints - whether it be not enough options, food poisoning... we cannot control how food impacts attendees. -- Event tech glitches - when a conditional logic isn't working on a registration form and you need to call their support And so many MORE circumstances that arises, making our job SO MUCH FUN! 😅 All of this can cause an events person extreme anxiety and stress! But we #eventprofs are strong, we handle it because we're SUPERHEROES! #eventprofs, Please... I'm SURE you have some to add to this list!! One the aspects I have always liked about the FTR Transportation Conference, which I have missed just once since 2010, is that it is chock-full of content and doesn't dedicate big blocks of time to a vendor exhibition – a rarity for industry events. Still, the conference has plenty of time for networking, including ample breaks during the day, social events each night (more on that tomorrow), and one of my favorite traditions, which is the Indy Canal Walk/Run. For early-ish risers (it used to be even earlier in the morning), the walk-run is a great way to combine networking with exercise. It's a win-win. And it's as taxing on your body and heart as you want it to be. Runners can run, and walkers can walk. If you prefer to stroll, that's fine, too. And thanks to Telegraph for sponsoring the Indy Canal Walk/Run each day of the conference. Of course, the main reason to attend the conference is the content. Check it out at www.ftrconference.com. Be sure to use discount code 24FTRAVERY25 to save 25% on registration. #trucking #freight #logistics

Short term or Long term thinking. The quandry..... spend thousands of dollars and precious time attending a trade show or train your staff to convert the prospective business sitting in your system ? Both are important, those inquiries came from somewhere could have been a trade show. Working in and on the business is challenging, sometimes getting assistance from external sources can let you do it all. Team members from Clockwise Australia this month are visiting China, conducting site inspections, auditing sales teams, training event managers, calling travel management companies, conducting presentations, planning events, presenting to PCOs and managing committees. #ExperienceMatters #DirectorofSales&Marketingin aBox #OutsourcedSales #DestinationMarketing
