As a former teacher and now an Account Executive at Worldwide Express, I've learned a thing or two about the power of genuine connection. As corny as it sounds, I learned a lot of that growing up from my father.
Story time....
Picture this:
A hot summer day at ARNOLDS PARK AMUSEMENT PARK. Myself, my husband, our 3 kiddos and my parents. Ride after ride, game after game we always had to go find my dad after! We realized he was always off talking to someone. Well, we found out that while everyone else was riding rollercoasters and playing games, my dad was busy talking to every single staff member. I do mean EVERY. SINGLE. STAFF MEMBER. By the time we left, he had a bunch of new connections and knew each person's story by heart. To this day he could probably tell you their names and all about their life back in their home countries. Side note.. my dad is NOT a salesman. He just genuinely loves hearing people stories.
His ability to effortlessly connect with others left a lasting impression on me.
I've always believed in building meaningful connections, and my dad showed me that businesses, receptionists, shippers, dock workers... we're all just humans at the end of the day. Deep down, we all crave connection and understanding.
So, when it comes to cold calling in logistics, I've made it my mission to lead with empathy. Understanding the concerns and needs of the person on the other end of the line isn't just about making a sale – it's about building a relationship.
Be a person first, a salesperson second. I've found that when you lead with empathy and genuine connection, sales naturally follow.
