Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - Australia & New Zealand’s Post

My name's Courtney Rosado and I'm a Disability and Inclusion Specialist here at the City of Fremantle and I'm very proud to officially announce the launch of the Hidden Disability Sunflower initiative here at the City. The rollout of the Hidden Disability Sunflower at the City of Fremantle is an incredibly personal and meaningful moment for myself as a neurodivergent individual. The initiative provides a simple yet powerful way to Foster and understanding and create an environment where people with non visible disabilities can feel seen, heard and supported and ultimately accepted. The Hidden Disability Sunflower is more than just a symbol, it's a tool. A tool for unlearning ableism, challenging preconceived notions and creating spaces where everyone feels valued. I'm proud to be part of this journey and helping lead the way to creating a more neuro- affirming and inclusive community here at the City of Fremantle were differences aren't just accepted but celebrated. Where we continuously strive to break down barriers and promote inclusion for all. Here at the City of Fremantle, we've always been a diverse and inclusive. Community and through the Hidden Disability Sunflower we have an opportunity to be agents of change, championing inclusion and promoting a strength based approach to disability inclusion. As part of the Hidden Disability Sunflower, we're also rolling out training for the City of Fremantle staff in the coming months. This training will help build understanding of hidden disabilities and how to provide support in practical and compassionate ways. Over the coming months you'll start to see the Hidden Disability Sunflower pop up at our various different City of Fremantle locations. By embracing the Hidden Disability Sunflower, we're making it easier for people with hidden disabilities to feel safe, included and supported in every corner of our city. Together, we're building a City of Fremantle that is more inclusive, compassionate and welcoming one sunflower at a time.
