The European Disability Card is closer to becoming a reality ✅ Long supported by CER, this card represents an important step for the benefit of all passengers, making it easier for people with disabilities to travel across Europe. 🤝 The common card has finally been validated and adopted by the EU institutions involved in the decision-making process, and now EU countries will need to make it a reality. 🔎 Among its many benefits, the card will further promote equal access to preferential conditions across European borders for persons with disabilities when accessing services like transport. 🚄 Harmonisation of rail ticketing conditions is one of the main challenges faced by railways due to disparate legal frameworks. Railways therefore welcome any help from the EU institutions to achieve seamless rail ticketing for all groups of passengers. To mark International Day of People with Disabilities #IDPwD, our team visited Musuem CAFE8, a social enterprise removing barriers by providing employment and vocational training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and neurodiversity. With a great menu and spectacular view of Victoria Harbour, Café 8 is an example of how everyone benefits from disability equity. The globally recognised Sunflower, a symbol for non-visible disabilities, has been adopted to support individuals with non-visible disabilities and ensure that the learning environment is accessible for all so they can achieve their full potential. Travel is a pleasure, but for people with disabilities, it can sometimes be a challenge. Fortunately, there are laws and regulations in place to protect their rights and ensure a more pleasant travel experience. One key piece of advice shared by Kristy Durso during her presentation was to research the laws and regulations designed to protect people with disabilities and to be confident in advocating for your rights to ensure they are respected.
