Team members of the SpringHill Suites and Courtyard Marriott Ewing, NJ were honored to host the students and staff members from The College of New Jersey's Pre-College Summer Program. The PCSP is a 10-day summer residential program for NJ high school students with an intellectual/developmental disability. One of the cornerstones of the PCSP is preparing students for work after high school. In addition to academics and on-campus work experiences, they connect with local companies to tour students and expose them to different sectors of work environments. The Courtyard and SpringHill Suites coworkers provided guided tours of both properties and hosted a Q & A session. Everyone was given a gift bag that included snacks and handwritten notes from team members to thank them for visiting and to wish them success on their first career venture. Many thanks to the students and faculty of PCSP for providing such a rewarding experience, and to the Ewing, NJ hotel leaders for exemplifying our values of caring for others and our community. Seems like the longest year so far but, Year 4 completed and passed! The past 12 months have been a blur at Lodge Service, so much work and growth and effort by all. I’m fast approaching #TwentyYearsService (I know I don’t look old enough😜) and I still genuinely love it - but honestly this has been the hardest year and studying alongside it has been virtually impossible at times. Our growth, wins and achievements as a #LodgeFamily have been incredible already this year, we have the strongest Ops team we’ve ever had, and this years wins are about to get even bigger - a LOT bigger (#WatchThisSpace 🤫). Therefore this grade 2 Pass means more to me than my previous grade 1 distinctions, because I know and feel the sacrifices I’ve made to get there. A big Thank You as always to our incredible leader Stuart Lodge for supporting my development and pushing me to invest in myself. Thank you to Darren Conway👮♂️ and Jenni Jetzer 🧩 also, for putting personal development as a priority and being understanding and supportive when I’m balancing assignments with work tasks. And a huge Thank You Laura Cockerill for keeping me motivated and ‘kicking me’ back on track when I quit and say “it’s all too much” (about 5 times this year) and putting up with me studying away on weekends, late nights and even on family holidays! Without the support of #GreatLeadership I wouldn't be able to pursue my ambition, without the support of a #GreatWoman I wouldn’t be able to achieve my ambition. #Grateful #ThankYou #DipHE #PersonalDevelopment #BachelorOfLawsHonours #openuniversity #OverHalfWay #FourDownTwoToGo #CareerDevelopment #LodgeService #NeverTooOld

The 31st July marked a truly exciting day. Not only did Brentwood Borough Council hold it's first apprenticeship assessment centre day, but our Young Employees and Allies Network held it's first event, both of which I was fortunate enough to have been a project lead of. Working hand-in-hand with the follow-up session of our annual Staff Conference, this 'Summer Soiree' consisted of a picnic, and sessions in chair yoga, hand massages, outdoor games, table tennis and a lunchtime walk. Re-emphasising the theme of health, happiness, and wellbeing in the workplace, the importance of such social events cannot be emphasised enough. Forbes said it best - a happy workforce is a more productive workforce! As Chair of the aforementioned YEAN, it brought me great pride to have seen such a large turnout. It has been reported that under 25’s represent approximately just 4.6% of the England and Wales local government workforce. In addition to this, 28% of young recruits plan to leave local government in the next four years, and the workforce of the public sector are older on average than that of the private sector. Thus, providing more reasons for young people to join and stay in the public sector is critical. Our YEAN aims to enable young employees to meet with other people of a similar age to work together on common issues, allow them to network with senior and experienced staff, develop their skills and experience, successfully promote local government to students and school leavers as a good place to work, and much more. I'm certain that this will be the first of many successful events for our network, and I look forward to what the future holds! #healthandwellbeing #healthatwork #wellbeingatwork #youngemployees #youngemployeesnetwork #networks #localgovernment #localgovernmentassociation #brentwood

𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐔𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝟖𝟎% 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 In a bold move towards fostering education accessibility and promoting continuous learning, South West College (SWC) is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking initiative that offers up to 80% off on selected part-time courses, as part of their initiative to help prospective learners and their families with the cost of living. Recognising the importance of providing opportunities for personal and professional growth, the College is committed to making high-quality education more accessible to a broader audience. This initiative aims to empower individuals from various backgrounds to acquire new skills, advance their careers, and achieve their educational goals. With a wide range of part-time subjects and levels on offer at our campuses in Dungannon Enniskillen and Omagh such as Indian head massage, lash and brow treatments, barista skills, cyber security, bookkeeping, food and safety hygiene, cocktail making, there’s something for everyone. Celine McCartan Chief Executive at South West College said: “The local community is at the heart of everything we do at South West College and we are continually focusing our efforts to ensure that we are providing tailored learning experiences that meet the needs of both students and employers living in our towns and villages across the South West region. “We understand that one of the biggest barriers to further education and part time study can be the cost implications and we hope that making this offer of reduced fees will encourage those in our communities who may have been out of education for some time, or who simply wish to update their skills will avail of this offer to enhance their career prospects and fulfil their lifelong learning ambitions.” The benefits of vocational education have helped many adults gain valuable training to help get promoted, retrain in a new career, and get back into education if they feel they have missed out previously at an earlier point in life. The College has also developed a range of career specific qualifications to help local people reach their employment potential. There are many reasons why people are drawn to part-time study. For many students it’s a way to study without giving up a job or sacrificing other commitments; for others it’s a way to gain new qualifications in the field they’re already working in and instantly apply them to the workplace. Market Field College said its goodbyes to a wonderful group of young people at the end of last academic year (2023 -24). We did so feeling proud of the students’ development to date and excited at the range of opportunities being pursued. Our leavers are entering a range of industries including retail, construction, hospitality & catering, and arboriculture. Upon leaving in 2024, 100% of our students have planned destinations. 60.7% are pursuing further education with places secured at Colchester Institute and ACL. One of our leavers will be undertaking an Accessible Apprenticeship in Business Administration. According to national statistics, young people with special educational needs and disabilities have a 4.8%. opportunity of securing paid employment upon leaving education. We are absolutely delighted to share that an exceptional 39.3% of our leavers have obtained paid employment, an increase on 32% last academic year. In addition to this, 3 more students were offered paid opportunities yet opted for an alternative route via Further Education. Meanwhile, some of our leavers continue to search for paid employment with the support of ECL. We wish all of our leavers the best of luck in their next steps.

Excellent initiative.
Two weeks left to apply! It is still the case that the UK craft sector does not accurately reflect the diversity of the UK as a whole and, for this reason, Heritage Crafts and the City & Guilds Foundation are taking positive action to target this bursary at Black and ethnically diverse groups who are currently under-represented in the craft sector. We believe that the value of our craft heritage comes from the diversity of skills and traditions across all of our communities, wherever they originated and whenever they were brought here. We want everyone to feel included in Heritage Crafts and our work, no matter how long they have called this country home or what their background may be. You could be just starting out on your journey in craft or at the point where you want to turn a hobby into a career, or you could already be a maker who is looking to further develop your heritage craft skills. Our training bursaries for Black and ethnically diverse trainees are supported by City & Guilds Foundation and are part of a wider scheme of training bursaries currently available. Find out how to apply at https://lnkd.in/er7sDUip. The deadline is 5 July 2024.

This year WCESC and Sinclair Mason collaborated on a pilot project for very at-risk students. These students spent 24 Fridays at Sinclair’s Mason campus where they were immersed in Information Technology, Allied Health, Advanced Manufacturing, and Travel and Tourism. These are students who previously experienced poor school attendance and low achievement. The results are very encouraging! 100 students attended at least one Friday atb Sinclair; 70 students attended at least three Fridays; Six students became OSHA 10 certified; 42 students became CPR/First Aid certified; 26 students became Stop the Bleed certified; 27 students became Certified Tourism Ambassadors; 31 students earned the Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal; 6 students enrolled at Sinclair; And Thirty Three students earned the 12 graduation points for the Pre-Apprenticeship Industry Credential. Our pilot will be improved and expanded next school year. Any incoming seniors who may need the 12 points to graduate are invited to enroll at John Lazares Alternative School to earn the Pre-Apprenticeship Industry Credential as an alternative to end of course exams.

Almost 30 years ago, Nana Violet was part of a group of Aboriginal leaders from Ieramugadu (Roebourne) who designed an innovative employment program. The program was not designed to generate workers for industry, it was designed to empower the people of Roebourne to pursue a pathway that THEY are passionate about. Not about doing what the world EXPECTS of them. A way for them to break the mould. They called it Warrgamugardi Yirdiyabura. Which loosely translates to “pathways for employment” This week Nana Violet’s granddaughter Dolly started her apprenticeship on the program, as she pursues her hospitality traineeship through NYFL. We keep getting asked by industry and government, why does this program work so well? It is 100% designed by Elders. The ONLY people who can design an effective pathway through social and economic change are those at the heart of it. That’s why it works. As Australia learns this week that closing the gap will fail if there without fundamental change, the answer is found is cultural owned and driven initiatives around the nation. This program is culturally safe. It is operated by the local community. It is guided by Elders. It is understanding. It is holistic. It navigates and embraces kinship systems. It understand complex avoidance relationships. It takes a trauma-informed approach. It is OWNED and driven by local mob. It measures success not by statistics but by observing social change and empowerment. Just watch Dolly’s growth… #socialimpact #westernaustralia
