Friday 27 October 2023 is the last day for your organisation | employer | firm | company to pledge their interest in offering an internship for either 10,000 Able Interns | 10,000 Black Interns - both introduced to sectors by charity The 10,000 Interns Foundation. Sign up and access talent and future experts for your teams. I am so proud to see so many of my client organisations in legal, banking and investment management participating in these internship programmes (and this isn't just their first year of being involved). Please don't think the below... 💭"Oh we do so much already in the graduate speake to attract diverse talent..." 💭"We can always sign up next year...." 💭"We already have diversity in our teams..." Just....sign up. Your organisation only has to complete a quick sign up form via the foundation's website and they will send you further updates regarding next steps. Oh and trust me, I have seen organisations keeping their interns in permanent or FTC roles or encouraging them to apply for interns roles. So, yes, these internships have huge benefits for organisations as well as the talented individuals who apply for the internships. That stereotypical image of working on Wall Street? I lived it. ⭐️ Cecily McCormack ‘24 🏠 Rutland, VT 📓 Business Administration: Finance 💼 Sales and Trading Fixed Income Intern at Cantor Fitzgerald Most people probably wouldn't opt to spend their winter break working away from home. But when the opportunity to spend the month in NYC at one of the top financial firms in the world popped up, I said yes. Absolutely, yes. And I've already learned SO much here. All these things I knew from UNH, I now get to apply to the real world. My internship was really hands-on. Essentially, I learned how salesman and traders go about selling and trading bonds. It's the perfect combination of both personable and analytical skills. Matching clients with the right assets is like a puzzle – and I love putting all the pieces together. I'm so thankful Paul's internship opportunity fund awarded me $2,500 to take this opportunity. Between NYC rent, commuting, and food, I didn't have to dip into my savings to be here. Which is just amazing. Nobody in my family has connections to the finance world, so I got this opportunity through sheer determination. I've been messaging alums and finance professionals on LinkedIn for years - probably hundreds of people at this point! Most people don't respond, but a managing director at Cantor Fitzgerald did. He gave me book recommendations and SO much advice. And then, in the fall he invited me to NYC for some informal networking/interviewing. (I got to chat/interview with the COO!) That led to this. I've had so much support on this journey from my professors. They're always willing to go the extra mile to help. Russ Miles even showed me how the subway system worked! I still check in with him weekly. Winter internships offer so much more one-on-one attention and real work. If you get the opportunity, just do it. I've fallen in love with this work and this city. You'll definitely find me in NYC after graduation. #PaulPride

This week, we are thrilled to introduce William Vandiver, a rising junior at Trinity College majoring in Political Science and minoring in Behavioral Finance. This summer, William is interning with our Legal team, contributing his analytical skills and enthusiasm for the field to our ongoing projects. We look forward to the fresh perspectives William will bring and the impact he will have during his time with us. Continue reading to learn more about William: 1. How do you approach personal growth and continuous learning? I approach growth and personal development by acting like a sponge when I'm around others. I love learning from people's experiences and perspectives and applying their lessons to my day-to-day. 2. What's the most significant lesson you've learned thus far, and how has it impacted you? The most valuable lesson I've learned so far in my life is the importance of developing good habits, eliminating bad ones, and the value of consistency. 3. What are your top three productivity tips for a successful workday? My three productivity tips for a successful day are to schedule out my responsibilities, cut out distractions, and focus on each task individually rather than multitask. 4. As a child, what career did you want to have when you “grew up?” When I was young, I wanted to be a marine biologist because of Shark Week. 5. What is something that brings you joy? Spending time with friends and family brings me the most joy. #CenterSquare #SummerInternship #Spotlight

Huntsman’s #SummerInterns from The Woodlands, Texas, joined Kevin Gundersen, Vice President of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs, for a lunch-and-learn session. They gained valuable insights into the world of government affairs and how it impacts our industry and operations here at Huntsman. Gundersen shared his firsthand knowledge and professional experiences with the students, who were eager to learn more about the impact of government affairs on the organization and industry. When asked by the summer interns what skills he had gained from government to corporate, Gundersen answered, “When you’re a senator or CEO, you have a certain type of personality. Amazingly similar. All these people are well-intentioned. Learn how they communicate and with whom. Very similar to CEOs. Apply the same tools of campaigns to business. Politicians ask for votes; CEOs ask you to work for them. Touching people’s hearts and minds. I never knew the skills I developed in D.C. would apply to corporate settings. Build skills that have value in future jobs. You’re building a body of work over your career,” Gundersen said. Our interns had a chance to ask a group of CHS leaders some questions at our headquarters in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., in a recent panel event. Mary Kaul-Hottinger, Gary Halvorson, Rick Dusek, and Brandon Smith met with summer interns, both in-person and virtually. The discussion covered a variety of topics including: setting career goals, receiving feedback, culture and employee retention and more. "Always be willing to change. Look at the possibilities. Have agility and adaptability. That's the future; things change fast." - Kaul-Hottinger "At a company like ours, you can start in one place and follow a passion to other places that might feed a curiosity or help with your professional development... Challenge yourself and chase your passions. It's all fuel for a career." - Halvorson "Try different experiences to help you figure out what you like and if the company is where you'd want to grow your career. Always be learning and meeting people." - Dusek "There's always cycles in business, good and bad. Be known as a person that leans in, asking ‘How can I help?' People will remember those tough times and how you showed up as a leader to help." - Smith #CHSIncIntern
