Memory Effect The memory effect, also known as the "voltage depression" or "lazy battery" effect, is a phenomenon that can lead to a decrease in the capacity of certain types of rechargeable batteries, such as nickel-cadmium (NiCd) and nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The memory effect occurs when a battery is repeatedly charged and discharged to the same level, rather than being fully discharged and then fully recharged. Over time, the battery "remembers" this partial discharge level and begins to lose its ability to hold a full charge. This can result in a decrease in the battery's overall capacity and a shorter runtime between charges. The memory effect is more common in older NiCd and NiMH batteries, and is less of a problem with newer designs and chemistries. It can be minimized or prevented by fully discharging and then fully recharging the battery on a regular basis, a process known as "conditioning" or "exercising" the battery. This helps to restore the battery's full capacity and prevent the memory effect from occurring. It's worth noting that the memory effect is not a problem with lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, which are commonly used in portable electronics, electric vehicles, and other applications. We go lower to set higher battery standards. Low temperature performance measurements down to -30 °C are carried out as standard. But even at -40 °C, measurements of the discharge capacity of the HPB Solid-State Battery show groundbreaking results: far more than half of the capacity can still be extracted.
