Jacqui Murray's latest blog in the #ReEnergise magazine gives a great overview of the future of floating offshore wind turbines over the next 10 years. While offshore wind power is another enabler on our transition to net-zero, it's key to remember that these structures utilise a wide range of materials such as steel, fibreglass, polymers, concrete and rare earth elements. Having a holistic approach to their installation that includes solutions for the recovery and recycling of these valuable commodities is critical. The Materials Processing Institute is working at the forefront of metal, cement, and critical mineral recovery, so please feel free to reach out if you have questions on how we might be able to support you. After decades writing for publications, Louisa Lay and I still feel that frisson of excitement when anything is published in print or online. Yesterday AREG had the privilege of organising a roundtable discussion with Great British Energy and key industry stakeholders in Aberdeen. One of the most interesting take-aways from Global Offshore Wind this week for me was understanding that continuous innovation in the sector is hampering sustainable growth.  In Cambridge we are surrounded by innovation, it is what drives economic growth and has contributed to the city’s ‘Silicon Fen’ title. So I find the idea of strategically slowing innovation to scale intriguingly logical. The global offshore wind industry is projected to grow by 5x between now and 2030. Albert Winnemuller of Vestas presented a compelling case for slowing down to enable the supply chain to build resilience and profitability through quality, reliability and availability, and attract investment for scaling. Constant innovation has resulted in uncertainty and slowed growth to date. RenewableUK #offshorewind #energy #sustainability
