One of they key statements that hit me when listening to this week's episode of The Convergence Podcast: When you are funding projects instead of results, you are focusing on project management--and not incentivizing your product teams to focus on innovation to meet customer needs & wants. OKR's give business and product goals a framework that allows teams to focus on *both* the company growth and user delight. OKR's are inherently business focused --how will you hit the revenue number, or user count? There are some great nuggets of truth in this episode about the do's and don'ts of implementing OKR's in your product org so not to fall into the build trap of pushing out features to checkmark done on your project plan. https://lnkd.in/gY7abn4h #product #productmanagement #fintech #mortgageservicing #sagent

I watched the new video 'Lenny’s Podcast' with Marty Cagan, where once again they discussed what product management is at the moment, and talked about Marty's new book on the product approach in business. Briefly, what I took away from it: There are Feature teams, and there are Empowered product teams. It's more about focusing on the problem and the user, rather than on how to equip the product with new functionality (features). The main area of product management is the value of the product and its business viability, not technical implementation and design. If you look at job postings now, you can see a request for UX/UI and good skills in delivering the product to production. There is also a demand for research, but more often you can see that backlog management and stakeholder requests are needed. As a bonus, an interesting piece of advice from Marty: if you've just founded a startup, don't rush to hire a product manager, don't take away part of the work at the early stages.
