Today we are celebrating #FlashbackFriday in an out of this world way... we are throwing it back to 2018 with the Go For Launch! Durham Series winning experiment in space! The students on this team, Team Orion, were over the moon to see this photo of their experiment inside the International Space Station! We have a total of 20 student experiments that have flown to space so far and all of the students were over the moon about this opportunity. We are galactically grateful to work with @space_tango to make this possible! And we are out of this world appreciative to Durham County Library and Durham Library Foundation for bringing us to their community to work with their stellar students! Even if you’re not a space geek, you may have heard of the moons Europa and Enceladus, both which orbit Jupiter and Saturn respectively. They’re famous for their potential ability to host the building blocks of life beyond Earth. What a privilege to be involved in New Zealand’s first mission to the International Space Station on NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's SpaceX-30 launch! Two months ago, sending my work to space was not something I ever considered. Today, my microfluidic chips are orbiting Earth. I can trace my involvement in this mission directly to a conversation at the 2023 KiwiNet Awards (afterparty). That led to conversations with researchers from University of Canterbury and University of Otago and resulted in this side-side-project with Vanessa Morris, Christoph Goebl, and Sarah Kessans.
