CAPSTONE ... the Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment ... continues to be "The Little Satellite That Could" as it flies near the Moon over 440 days. The spacecraft is conducting operations in Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO); achieving record-long mission operational "up times;" conducting experiments that demonstrate its usefulness for position, navigation, and timing (PNT); and for testing software at the Moon. The Advanced Space CAPSTONE spacecraft recently set a mission record of 112 days of spacecraft uptime. This is a testament to the resilience of the system, the team, and its ongoing performance. The 112 days were interrupted by a system reset caused by a ground station being unavailable as scheduled. On the positive side, this brief reset meant that the spacecraft operated as designed when communications were interrupted...https://lnkd.in/dyja3KDm

🌕 Successful Lunar Landing Simulation for #Beresheet2! 🌕 We achieved a significant milestone on our journey to the #Moon. This week, our mission engineers successfully simulated the landing of Beresheet2 on the Moon using an advanced simulator developed in collaboration with Sim Dot Space, an Israeli company founded by engineers who were involved in the #Beresheet1 mission. In this simulation, Beresheet2 successfully landed on the Moon, marking a significant step in testing the spacecraft's design. The simulator replicates all phases of flight—from lunar capture to lander separation and the landing itself. The flawless landing in the simulator provided crucial insights, confirming that the lander and its control systems are well-designed and functioning properly. As we advance toward the 2027 launch of Beresheet2, we remain committed not only to technological excellence but also to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers in Israel. 🌍🚀 SIM.SPACE #SpaceExploration #Innovation #IsraelInSpace

This might be an unpopular post! I am not so impressed by the capabilities claimed and shown so far by #commercialspace in the area of spacecraft autonomy, rendezvous proximity operations and capture/docking. Low cost distributed space missions employing #SmallSats and #CubeSats I worked on in the past, such as #PRISMA and #BIROS, have gone #above and #beyond what's being demonstrated today (check our #publications here: https://lnkd.in/gs3ReFga). We need #progress. I am looking forward to see either completely #new capabilities or at least an #enhancement with respect to the state of the art or the state of practice. An example of what we should strive for is given by the #NASA #Starling mission. Kudos to the #NASA #SmallSpacecraftTechnologyProgram (Roger Hunter) for the vision and pursuit. It gave us the possibility to validate a new distributed optical navigation system through the Starling Formation-Flying Optical Experiment (StarFOX): https://lnkd.in/gq28gXcr https://lnkd.in/dhFVuYyM Imagine scaling this capability to #constellations, to #autonomous #spacebased #situational #awareness, that's our next mission, #boundless opportunities ahead. https://lnkd.in/daQ98Zij

NASA's Artemis program and the FLOAT lunar train concept have captivated me (maybe because I'm still a little kid at heart with dreams of going to the moon). https://lnkd.in/deNTg3aA The "Flexible Levitation on a Track" (FLOAT) signifies a pivotal step towards a sustainable lunar infrastructure, sparking a broader conversation about the transformative technologies needed to thrive on the moon. From energy solutions and resource utilization to next-gen habitation, what earth-shattering ideas (pun intended) could redefine lunar life? And how will our typical Engineering and Construction processes need to change for the lunar landscape? #NASA #Artemis #LunarExploration #LunarEngineering #LunarConstruction #HoustonWeHaveAProblem

I am thrilled to announce that I will be presenting two research papers at the upcoming SECESA 2024 conference, organized by the European Space Agency - ESA at International Space University in France, Under the Supervision of Krishna Kumar. These papers represent significant strides in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to critical issues in space exploration and maintenance. 1. Artificial Intelligence-based Fault Identification and Predictive Maintenance of Spacecraft and Space Robots 2. Deciphering Orbital Dynamics Machine Learning Based Approaches for Precise Space Debris Estimation. Research explore innovative ML models that significantly improve the accuracy of tracking and predicting orbital debris movements, which is crucial for maintaining the safety and integrity of space operations. This study delves into the development of AI-driven techniques for early fault detection and preventive maintenance strategies, enhancing the reliability and lifespan of both spacecraft and robotic systems. Looking forward to engaging discussions with fellow researchers and industry experts. Let’s drive the future of space technology together! https://lnkd.in/evuBraf7 #SECESA2024 #SpaceTechnology #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #SpaceExploration #EuropeanSpaceAgency Regards Uday PHD Scholar Artificial Intelligence For Aerospace system Laboratory Department of Aerospace TMU 🇨🇦

It was a great honor for me today to participate in the panel discussion, which took place as part of the presentation of the ambitious project called Czech Journey to Space. Government leaders as well as academia and representatives of Czech industry participated in the ceremonial presentation of this plan today. The mission of the Czech astronaut will of course be accompanied by a number of other activities of private companies and scientific institutions, and at the same time it also has great potential to stimulate interest in studying technical fields. At the same time, the educational office ESERO (European Space Education Resource Office) was also reopened with the task of increasing the scientific and technical knowledge of primary and secondary school students. #ceskacestadovesmiru #Czechspace #posletesvujpodpisdovesmiru #CzechSpaceTeam #space #spacecareers #spacejobs #spaceindustry #ISS #HumanSpaceFlight #Innovation #czechspaceweek #honeywel #alkp #czechspaceteam #astronaut

This study aim to address these challenges for cislunar communications by proposing a machine learning-based cislunar #space #domain #awareness (#SDA) capability that enables robust and secure communications. To this end, they first propose a detailed channel model for selected cislunar scenarios. Secondly, they propose two types of interference that could model anomalies that occur in cislunar space and are so far known only to a limited extent. Finally, they discuss our cislunar #SDA to work in conjunction with the spacecraft communication system. Their #Noise #Intentional/#Unintentional #Interference #Multipath #Fading proposed cislunar #SDA, involving heuristic learning capabilities with machine learning algorithms, detects interference models with over 96% accuracy. ----Selen Gecgel Cetin, Gunes Karabulut Kurt, @Ángeles Vazquez-Castro More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/gfuvns9A
