Just had the incredible opportunity to meet the🚀 WARR Rocketry Team of #students from the Technical University of Munich at #EuRoC23 and the winner of the 🏆Design New Space Award. It's not every day you come across a student team that has built the largest mobile #launchpad for #SRAD rockets! Spending days working with every tool imaginable, their #rocket project NIXUS was a sight to behold - as close to industry standards as it gets. 👉Fast forward three months from #EuRoC, today I had the honor of interviewing Greta Angela Giacomelli, Bernhard Vorhofer, Louis Wiench, Matthias Weiand, and Max Finkl of the 2024 team. Stay tuned for a video interview coming soon! https://lnkd.in/dEY5fWSq For those unfamiliar, WARR stands for "Wissenschaftliche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Raketentechnik und Raumfahrt", or "Scientific Workgroup for Rocketry and Spaceflight". They're a non-profit student group based at the Technical University Munich, focusing on space-themed projects. With over 200 active student members, WARR is Germany's largest group in this field. They operate in five subgroups: #WARRrocketry (hybrid and liquid rockets), #WARRspaceelevator (space elevator prototypes), #WARRmove (satellites), #WARRspacerobotics (rover concepts), and #WARRspacelabs (microgravity experiments on the ISS). Established in 1962, WARR was formed to supplement the university's theoretical education with practical aerospace experience. A perfect blend of theory and hands-on learning!

Day 2 of #NCAS2024Explore Mission 2: go! My incredible team, Artemis Skylab Red (ASR), and I have chosen to go to the Moon over Mars! We are responsible for paying close attention to adapting to Space and/or working in zero/near-zero gravity so we are all about human flight here at ASR and we could not in good conscious send our simulated astronauts to Mars without a strong longer-term more recent mission to the moon. We are following the lead of NASA's Johnson Space Center's clear priority of human health and safety and making communication and system redundancy as we assess our budget and plans for scientific return. #MUREP If you are a community college student, or know someone who is, applications for Mission 1 are open for the fall! https://lnkd.in/dRM-W7jf

SPACE INNOVATORS: The NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts solicitation is OPEN until July 1st at 5 PM EDT. NIAC seeks game changing technology which enables wholly new missions (NASA's words, not mine). Any "US Person" can apply. I made this simplified version of Martins Zaumanis' project canvas for teaching 5th graders how to invent new space mission concepts. Can you do better? This isn't as easy as you think. But I've got some tips up on the NIACFellows website: https://lnkd.in/gGts8-Us -- including two different three-page (Step IA) proposal examples. I also offer free support for students and other non-traditional proposers like myself. Companies have to pay, of course. 😜 One free tip: this is a hell of a lot easier to invent the tech you need to support a mission you already have in mind. It's a lot more work if you are trying to sell a tech you already have by inventing a mission (aka "shoehorning"). Why me? I'm a highschool dropout and aircraft mechanic by trade who became the first undergraduate Principal Investigator in NIAC's history, and the only person to win Fellowship twice as an undergraduate (I literally paid for my bachelors degree by winning NIACs). As we navigate a world where 65% of today's primary school children will work in roles that don't yet exist, nurturing creativity is essential for envisioning the future of scientific breakthroughs and global solutions. This #ThrowbackThursday, we revisit an inspiring moment from World Space Week on October 9th 2023, at London’s iconic Piccadilly Circus, where the imagination of our youngest generation took centre stage. NASA astronauts Nicole Stott, Susan Still Kilrain, European Space Agency - ESA Astronaut Tim Peake, and science communicator Brian Cox, in collaboration with Harwell Campus and supported by Piccadilly Lights, unveiled a breathtaking art mosaic. This mosaic, composed of hundreds of artworks from the "Rise Together" competition, showcased the boundless creativity of children and their visions of space, sparking a global conversation on the importance of imagination in shaping our future. The initiative, inspired by a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration study revealing a dramatic decline in creativity as children grow older, underlines the critical role of imagination in addressing planetary challenges and fostering innovation. Do you know of a student (11-18 years of age) that would like to design and launch a small experiment to space on a #NASA mission? Cubes in Space provides access to suborbital space for students to conduct #STEM research and engage in technology development. Cubes in Space is an iEDU program offered in collaboration with #nasawff NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center - Wallops Flight Facility. How the Program Works - #stemeducators #homeschoolparent #informalscience educators, or any adult, registers at www.cubesinspace.com, and delivers the program to students. Or, parents/caregivers can enroll students in the Online Student Academy to learn directly from Team Cubes in Space. In addition to the resources provided in the Free Program, we do offer a full curriculum with the Standard Course or our Educator Training Course for any adult that wants more knowledge or resources to use with students. The Online Student Academy offers an 8-week online course for students 13-18 years of age.
