Stop the Insanity 🛑 It happened again last night. You’d think after a year #jobseeking that I would have learned by now. But there I was again, doom-scrolling through my LinkedIn feed. It all starts so innocently, reading through posts, commenting when I have something to add. Pausing at #hiring posts to see if they’re relevant. And then 💥 I read a post of frustration, desperation, despair. I can relate. Totally. Suddenly it’s no longer casual scrolling. Unconsciously I find myself searching for similar posts. And before I’m fully aware, my mood has shifted drastically. This is where self-care and self-love steps up. By all means, empathize with others. But not to the point where it triggers your own fears and past trauma. You are ultimately alone when it’s time to interview for a new position. You gotta bring your 🅰️ game. To all the job seekers out there, be sure to take time for you. I know that you are hustling to find work and…be sure to take time for you. Because it’s not just the employed that can get burnt out, those searching for jobs can experience burn out too. So, whether you set a boundary on when you engage in job search activities or take mini-breaks throughout the day; it’s important to take care of yourself during this time too. As shared in the an article (link in comments) from the BBC on unemployed workers going through burnout, “There may be ways to alleviate the burnout burden by creating a daily routine and setting a designated time each day for setting up job alerts, spending time applying for jobs and sending out emails. The process is still time consuming, but for workers who are suffering, it can help to incorporate the job search and networking conversations into your day, but don’t make it your entire day”. MY LIFE LATELY: IN A NUTSHELL Dealing with an unhealthy work environment and unsympathetic colleagues can be more challenging than being unemployed. However, being jobless comes with its own set of complications. It's disheartening to learn about the mistreatment of workers in today's workplaces. Some employers, particularly in small businesses, need to reconsider their approach to managing employees and recognize the significance of establishing a fair and respectful work atmosphere for everyone. I've been without a job for over two years now, and I'm constantly battling depression, addiction, anxiety, and an overwhelming sense of negativity. Sometimes, I question whether I truly belong in the corporate world. That's why I'm always looking for ways to improve my skills, hoping to find a side gig to generate some income. I'm willing to be patient as I search and work on my transformation. Right now, my family and relationships are far more important, especially when it comes to my mental well-being, than simply striving to keep everything together. 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚊𝚍𝚓𝚒𝚎.
