Great to see Jobs Plus pilots going live - key features include universal eligibility for all neighbourhood residents, services being co-located in an integrated 'hub', and community support (e.g. peer support) to help build trust and social capital. These are all elements Demos recommended in our proposal for a Universal Work Service. Great that these pilots will be evaluated. Lots to learn for future policy, including the development of local plans for a "joined-up work, health, and skills offer for local people" included in the government's manifesto. (Universal Work Service proposal is here: https://lnkd.in/ec7w2WDB)
We're excited to announce that we are leading a new community-led approach in L8, helping people secure good work - called Jobs Plus with Plus Dane Housing We’ll be working out new ways to meet peoples’ unmet needs, which means a great deal to us. We’re all about people, relationships, and trust. This is a US housing and employment model now being piloted in 10 areas of the UK; L8 is one of them. Never been done before. The differences in this new approach can be seen in the attached graphic: Being 1 of the 10 pilots is exciting, it means we’ll be learning lessons from different UK neighbourhoods, and we’ll be part of a national evaluation. Our hope is to shape the future of how community led employment support could be done. To re-set the UK model for good and meet the needs of more people. on the ground we’re working with First Person Project C.I.C and Liverpool In Work to give people the best opportunities in community led wellbeing and job focussed support #JobsPlus Steve Rotherham Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Liverpool City Council Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place Tony Wilson Emma Sneyd

👉 At TLC we think it’s a crying shame that there are still many people a long way from meaningful, fulfilling lives, with work or without. So we set about changing that over 10 years ago. It was important to find ways to change the system, as well as deliver quality support. It feels like this could be 'that moment'. 👉 So many people have worked for years to get Jobs Plus into the UK from the US - Communities that Work Tony Wilson Learning and Work Institute and more in housing than I could name. And here we are. 👉 It's LIVE and we are privileged to be leading the delivery of the Toxteth pilot, the place we are located and know. Too many people miss out, eligibility criteria always gets in the way, so having the money isn't always the only answer, the system needs to get behind the change, people's unmet needs must be front most centre most. 👉 Working with Capacity alongside this project (and the national evaluation) we'll be bringing to the fore any lessons for public sector reform to demonstrate how community-led employment support could be a game-changer for people. Thanks to Fusion21 Jo Hannan Dave Neilson getting the issues and supporting this research. I know lots of you have long memories too, so many things we have all tried and seen the impact of, the JETS to name just one. We hope the new Government will re-fund community led services (aka NRF, remember that!?). What we have isn't fit to meet the needs of 👉 2.8m economically inactive people 👉 1m (almost) young people not in work or education 👉 mental health among younger out of work people starting to eclipse older people 👉 working people stuck in jobs that keep them poor, insecure, stressed or exhausted Thanks Plus Dane Housing Ian Reed Emma Sneyd for the opportunity to collaborate! I love working with people with convictions – of course their can be barriers to employment, but when pursuing self-employment there are so many opportunities. Lately, I've been finding clients reporting issues surrounding earning over a certain amount results in additional rent charges in some supported accommodation (or similar) which has an obvious discouraging effect to their entrepreneurial endeavours. Anyone in my network met with similar? Anyone care to talk about the policy? #prison #HMPPS #supportedliving #justice2point0
