It's cold in Atlanta this January, but at Rosa Thurner's El Ponce, it's always warm and colorful inside. Just east of the Beltline on Atlanta’s famed Ponce de Leon Ave, Business for Beltline Rail Now finds Thurhner, owner of El Ponce Mexican restaurant. This colorful eatery, bar AND Fair Trade gift shop is walking distance to the final Beltline rail stop on the Streetcar East Extension, which could be delivering customers and workers to El Ponce in 2028. "Every major modern city in the world has a decent transportation system and that's pretty much the thing we're lacking" Rosa says with the conviction of a small business owner who believes in Atlanta and has staked everything here. “It’s difficult to find affordable housing near the restaurant. Right now, five of my 20 employees drive to work. So [the rest] are either biking, scooting, ride sharing or taking MARTA. So any improved accessibility will help me retain my current staff and possibly hire as we grow.” – Rosa Thurhner, owner of El Ponce restaurant on Ponce de Leon Ave, in Poncey-Highland. Christmas Markets by rail. Special £2 rail fares offered by Northern. Northern have worked with tourism bosses in #Harrogate and #Skipton to create a £2 rail fare [like the £2 bus fare] for those visiting the Christmas markets. #Barnsley has a Christmas Market at the Glassworks but I am not hearing that there will be a similar promotion. Northern was targeting less crowded markets in towns for the promotion and so perhaps there is still time for officers at Travel South Yorkshire, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority or Barnsley Council to do a deal, as Barnsley's rail station is really close to the #Glassworks. Lots of the answers to business challenges and opportunities lie in talking and sharing with other companies, and the countless organisations out there to support you such as Innovate UK North Yorkshire Council York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub. Plus there are always plenty of companies out there ready and willing to share their business journey with other companies. Yesterday was a great example. Curiosity is key when running a business: new markets, products, ways of leading... we just have to put ourselves out there, listen and engage.
