Howdy all, this is my first LinkedIn post!
I finished a 2-month internship with Polestar UK, touring the Research and Development departments. Polestar is an electric vehicle automotive company that develops electric vehicles with the core principle of being a guiding star for sustainability in the automotive industry while maintaining performance and luxury values.
From May 28th to August 1st of 2023, I participated in the first-ever Polestar UK internship program in which I spent a week on average in 7 different departments. These departments included Prototype Assembly and Technicians, Vehicle Integration CAD, Vehicle Integration CAE, Ergonomics, Exterior Trim, Interior Advanced Materials and Sustainability, Chassis and Systems, Body Advanced Materials and Sustainability, and Electrical.
Throughout this internship, I refined my CAD knowledge by using both CATIA V5 and Teamcenter Visualization to communicate and design parts for the vehicle effectively, learned the importance of considering the physical assembly process when designing on CAD, studied the LS-DYNA and OASYS software while also observing the Hyperworks CAD generating software, learned how to account for a large consumer base’s comfort in a precise and testable way, understood the importance of sustainable practices and testing new materials, observed the value of FMEA in identifying potential points of failure in a design, and experienced an overview of every thermal and electrical system on the vehicle.
My achievements included researching and contributing knowledge on new and sustainable material, improving an interactive tool for CO2e measurement, modeling brackets for the vehicle’s accelerometer, completing and presenting a study on a negative assembly interaction, and providing the team with necessary CAD models for packaging and marketing.
A challenge I faced during my experience at Polestar was the learning curve associated with many of the used software and systems. However, I overcame these through the help of my colleagues and practice.
I met many incredibly talented and intelligent individuals from whom I received guidance and mentoring, from which I will always call back on. I want to thank everyone on the Polestar team for making me feel a part of the team and encouraging me to ask questions.
This internship has undoubtedly prepared me for a future in the electric vehicle industry, and the skills I have learned through this experience will guide me in my future endeavors.
Please comment on this post; any endorsement of the skills from this internship would also be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for the invaluable experience, Polestar UK!
