On the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, Hillwood's associates volunteered at Carry the Load's Dallas Memorial March. The event kicked off at noon with an array of festivities at Reverchon Park, where participants enjoyed live music and a variety of food trucks. The National Relay team ceremoniously handed off the American Flag, prompting participants to embark on a 2-mile loop through the Dallas city streets lined with photos of our service men and women. After the initial parade, willing participants continued the 20-hour march along the Katy Trail. As a founding sponsor, Hillwood Investment Properties has supported Carry the Load since its inception. Hillwood sponsors a water station that provides marchers with refreshments, including chips and fresh fruit. This year's volunteers were Chris Bell, LEED AP and Alan Raetzman of Hillwood Construction, along with the HIP team, including Scott Norman and his son Henry, John Graham Emslie, Michelle Simpkins, and her family – including her father, a Vietnam War veteran, and Mari Williams. We extend a special thank you to the dedicated volunteers, veterans, families, civilians and uniting us all, Americans! #HillwoodCommunity #CommunityService #MemorialDay #IndependenceDay

An excellent advice to pilots by TC : Number one, “you have to know how to do your job! “..This advice explains all.🦅🍃Perhaps, the advice can be further explained like; you have to know how to do your job + under normal and rapidly changing expected / unexpected circumstances! (that would require a nonstop situational assessment during a flight in addition to a proper mental preparation before the flight). Congratulations to TC.

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Fallen Heroes This Memorial Day 🇺🇲 Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, is a solemn day to remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country. More Than a Summer Kickoff! While Memorial Day often marks the unofficial start of summer, with barbecues and backyard get-togethers, it's important to remember the true meaning of the holiday. It's a day to honor the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom. 🇺🇲 Ways to Observe Memorial Day - Visit a cemetery or memorial: Pay your respects to fallen soldiers by placing flags on their graves or attending a local ceremony. - Volunteer your time: Many organizations hold events to honor veterans on Memorial Day. Consider volunteering at a veteran's home or participating in a fundraising event. - Learn about the history of Memorial Day: Reflect on the origins of the holiday and the sacrifices made throughout American history. - Moment of silence: At 3:00 pm local time on Memorial Day, a National Moment of Remembrance is held. Pause for a moment of silence wherever you are to honor those who died serving our country. #MemorialDay #HonorTheFallen #NeverForget 🇺🇸 By remembering and honoring our fallen heroes, we can ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

The world and America in particular needs this: volunteerism, civic duty and service are something sadly that seems to be at a loss in my country. The opportunity I had to serve in the Peace Corps helped me realize the necessity of community engagement and cohesion and the immense need for these opportunities for citizens around the world to build strong and resilient democracies at the local and national levels. I am also reminded of Robert Putnam’s “Bowling Alone” and an update he wrote in 2010, reflecting on the imperative of “social capital” which research has shown makes “citizens happier, healthier, reduces crime and makes governments more responsive, and honest and improves economic prosperity…” https://lnkd.in/ejFsvTs9 - all of this to say: building this social capital is imperative fo “any democracy, any society can’t be healthy without this resource…” (paraphrased!) - Americorps and Peace corps forging a stronger partnership can only be beneficial to growing social capital and I encourage all of us to look closer at our own civic engagement and service to our communities- this is where change and development starts.
🌟 Big News! 🤝 Peace Corps and AmeriCorps are forging a strategic partnership to rally all Americans for a brighter, sustainable future. Together, we're dedicated to recruiting and retaining members and volunteers who are committed to advancing the cause of peace, friendship, stronger communities, and civic engagement through service and volunteering. Imagine a place where the silent sacrifices of military families are not only recognized but also actively supported. Where nature's tranquility heals, and the collective voice of a community advocates for the unseen and unheard. This is the story of the Betsy Eves Group—a narrative of how passion, when paired with purpose, can ignite a beacon of hope for military spouses, caregivers, and their families. But why does this work matter? Because behind every uniform, there is a family—a network of individuals whose love, resilience, and sacrifices underpin the very freedoms we cherish. Our efforts go beyond mere acknowledgment; they strive to ensure that these families are empowered, supported, and honored not just in words, but in every action we take. The challenges facing military families continue to evolve, and so too must our efforts to support them. Our annual letter is not just a reflection of what we've achieved but a clarion call to action. It's an invitation to join us in this mission of hope, healing, and empowerment. To stand with us as we advocate for change, nurture connections, and celebrate the unwavering spirit of our military families. Download and read our full 2024 Annual Letter today.
