Last Friday, our dedicated team members were at the forefront of The Netherlands’ biggest volunteering initiative of NLdoet. With hearts full of enthusiasm, we rolled up our sleeves and went on a mission to make a positive impact. 🍃 🌍 🌱 Laurens Borgsate: The garden of Laurent Borgsate underwent a transformation. We meticulously placed vibrant flowers and lush plants, turning it into a summer-proof garden. 🌞🌸 🌿 Rotterdamse Munt: Our green thumbs extended to Rotterdamse Munt, where we collaborated to create a greener, more sustainable Rotterdam. Volunteering isn’t just about the tasks we accomplish; it’s about the connections we make, the communities we uplift, and the shared purpose that unites us. Let’s continue to sow kindness and bloom together! 🌷🤝 #jijdoetertoe #VolunteerWork #CommunityImpact #rotterdam

How do you measure the success of your sustainability event? For me, it's when this happens: "Hey, I listened to your talk with Reef Check Malaysia two weeks ago and I start to follow them on Instagram. I saw that they have a diver volunteering programme. It requires the diver to have a minimum of 25 logged dives and I only have 21. I am more motivated to go diving now so I can volunteer with them." 🥰🥰🥰 That's the reason why I just need to keep going. #sustainability #voluntering #awareness

🌍Clean Earth Initiative🌍 I would like to share with the results of our recent volunteering project aimed at cleaning up the environment. As a part of #CleanEarth2024 initiative , our team should find the polluted place and clean it. As the result we collected : - 28 tyres from saloon cars - 4 tyres from trucks - 4 bags of plastic - 4 bags of mixed garbage - 2 bags of glass - 1 chair The garbage was by taken away by responsible cleaning company. The main aim for me was to remove the 32 tyres, left in the surroundings of Soltysowicki forest. The decomposition period for 1 tyre is 50-80 years, so our action decrease quite significant harm for environment. Special thanks to my team: Justyna Kubów -your dedication and engagement was on highest level. Anita Maciesza-your sense of humor made the hard work lighter and kept our spirits high. Agata Czernatowicz-your transportation's contribution was crucial for finish. #CleanEarth #Volunteering #Capgemini #TeamWork #ProtectOurPlanet #ZeroWaste

September 21st was a significant day for GSC China and the entire GSC Network as we came together to promote positive change and a sustainable future, celebrating GSC Community Day. This year, from 8 AM CST in Mexico on September 20 to 10:30 AM CET in Poland on September 21, we witnessed thousands of colleagues across our eight GSC locations dedicating their time to support our communities, the environment, and our planet. In GSC China, we were thrilled to gather 300 participants for a hiking event in the great outdoors, where we immersed ourselves in nature and learned about desert greening initiatives. This event alone will result in the donation of 1,800 saxaul trees, which will help protect 18,000 square meters of soil from further desertification in the desert area. The positive impact of this initiative is profound: it will enhance the local living environment and stimulate economic growth by creating more habitable space. Volunteering transcends the tasks we undertake; it is about the meaningful impact we generate. Through our #24HoursOfCommunitySupport initiative, we have created a global wave of positive change. I am both excited and proud of the achievements we have made thus far for our communities and the planet. I firmly believe in our commitment to continue this important work in the future. #GlobalSustainability #GlobalVolunteering #Volunteering #GSCNetwork #ClimateActionNetwork #GSCChinaCS

Apart from my academics.. As a student, my journey is not just about academic pursuits but also about nurturing a deep-rooted passion for social work, environmental conservation, and community engagement. Believing strongly in the power of manifestation, I have dedicated my time to initiatives that align with my values and beliefs. From volunteering at local food donation drives to actively participating in plantation campaigns, I strive to contribute meaningfully to society. Collaborating with organizations dedicated to humanity's well-being has further deepened my understanding of the impact of collective action. As I continue on this path, I am committed to fostering positive change, one step at a time, and to inspire others to join me in manifesting a more compassionate and sustainable world. #StudentActivist #SocialImpact #ManifestingChange

🌏 Why being eco-friendly matters for volunteers in social work? 🌿 As international volunteering programme, we are committed to improving lives and communities. But our impact does not end with the people we serve - it extends to the environment we share. Being eco-friendly is not just a trend; it is a reponsibility that aligns with the core values of social work and European Solidarity Corps programme: sustainability, equity, and respect for all forms of life. 🍀 As volunteers, we can inspire others through our actions. Demonstrating eco-friendly behaviour in daily life - no matter where we are - encourages others to do the same. We have practiced this on our On-Arrival seminar, where the volunteers received watter bottles to reduce plastic waste and we have had a seminar session devoted to eco-friendly hacks the volunteers can practice on their placements and in their daily lives! Together, we can make a difference - not just for people, but for the planet, too! Let´s volunteer with purpose and protect the environment together!

Recommended reading if you work for or support environmental nonprofits. The quote below, in particular, highlights a major challenge - meeting basic operational needs, even after receiving thousands (or millions) in grant funds, which often don't provide a penny to support the staff and org that do the work. "Many large funding organizations and donors are willing to support the direct implementation of environmental projects but are reluctant to cover overhead costs. Overhead includes essential expenses like staff salaries, office space, and administrative support, and fundraising all of which are necessary to keep an organization running." The importance of unrestricted funding from donors as the engine that drives conservation organizations can't be overstated.
Of the nearly $550 BILLION dollars given to charity in 2023 how much went to environmental causes? Not as much as you may think... Its 2023 only 8% of donated dollars went to any type of environmental cause. There is a reason for this--it is incredibly hard to fundraise for the environment! Find out why as well as what to do about it in our newest article. Some serious thought leaders and practitioners helped with this project. A special thanks to: Karyn Bryant from Rainforest Trust Jen Levy from ANCA (Association of Nature Center Administrators) Emily Nichols from Root Capital Jennifer Foy from NorthBay Education Christi Huizenga Renaud from Plant With Purpose

Rewards for tourists in Copenhagen 🌱 Tourists will be rewarded with free food and activities if they participate in tasks including litter-picking (good luck finding any litter...), traveling by public transport, or cycling around the 546km of bicycle paths. This program relies on honesty, as attractions won't require concrete evidence of your green activity. However, some locations might ask for a simple photo (e.g. you riding a 🚴🏻♀️) or proof of using public transport. Participation in this pilot scheme is voluntary for businesses like museums, rooftop bars, and even kayaking charities. What's crazy is that the government won't be reimbursing them for offering these discounts. Despite the lack of reimbursement, 24 organisations have already joined the initiative 💚 Image: sustainable power plant with a ski slope on the roof #coppay #denmark #ecotourism #greentech #climatetech

GTN’s social mission is unwavering – to provide every girl with the opportunity to achieve the future she chooses. For every new corporate client we acquire, a donation is made to the Malala Fund to support women’s education around the globe.
