Nearly 70pc of horticulture exporters in the country are found in the regional state. Alpine nectarine blossoms herald the beginning of a new season in July. These beautiful flowers are a precursor to the sweet and juicy nectarines that follow. Thriving in cooler climates, Alpine nectarines demand precise agricultural practices, including regular pruning, optimal irrigation, and effective pest management. Ensuring these practices not only guarantees a bountiful harvest but also highlights the importance of meticulous care in horticulture. 🍑🌸 South Africa's nectarine industry has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by increasing demand and the introduction of higher-yielding varieties. The total area dedicated to nectarine production rose from 2,314 hectares to 2,776 hectares in 2022. This expansion is expected to continue, with a predicted 20% increase in exports for the current season, thanks to young orchards coming into production and the adoption of new cultivars. Nectarines are primarily grown in the Western Cape region, benefiting from excellent winter rainfall and a favorable climate that enhances fruit quality and color. The nectarine and peach season in South Africa runs from October to April, with peak production occurring around January and February. Export destinations include the UK, where South Africa shipped 3.4 million 2.5kg cartons last season, and this year's export volumes are expected to surpass these figures. Despite logistical challenges at the port of Cape Town, the industry is optimistic about overcoming these hurdles with improved port operations and the use of specialized reefer terminals to ensure timely and efficient exports. #AlpineNectarine #NectarineBlossom #Agriculture #Horticulture #FruitFarming #JulyBloom #NaturePhotography #FarmLife #Lucentlands

Starting with macadamia seeds soaked to break dormancy, they sprout into strong seedlings under the Kenyan sun. Over weeks, through stages like grafting and pre-hardening, these seedlings are transformed into high-yielding, organic trees ready for the Kenyan smallholder farms. After planting, they take 4-5 years to bear their nutritious fruit, supporting both sustainable agriculture and local communities. 🌍 #Sustainability #OrganicFarming #Macadamia #LIMBUA #Growth #Seedling
