YouTube will soon introduce a thumbnail feature for creators California: Video streaming platform YouTube is going to introduce a new ‘thumbnail test and compare’ feature for all its channels in the next few weeks. Using this feature, creators will be able to use up to three different thumbnails in any of their videos, allowing them to determine which thumbnail performed best. The ‘thumbnail test and compare’ feature will offer creators the option to upload multiple thumbnails when posting a new video. During the trial, YouTube will show different thumbnails to different viewers. Later after a reasonable amount of data has been collected (which should take approximately two weeks) YouTube will analyze which thumbnail had the highest ‘watch time share’. After which one of three results will be declared for the thumbnail. 1) Winner: Clearly the winning thumbnail that will beat everyone in terms of watch time. 2) Preferred: A thumbnail that may have performed better than others, but statistically, the results will be less conclusive. 3) Nun: No thumbnail will be declared a winner. ▶ YouTube's TikTok competitor Shorts may cannibalise the core, long-form video business of the Google-owned video streaming platform. Google recently announced that Shorts now has more than 2 billion logged-in monthly users, giving it an edge over competitors like TikTok and Instagram Reels. YouTube is experimenting with server-side ad injection (SSAI) to counter adblockers, integrating ads directly into video streams. Unlike the current client-side ad injection (CSAI), where ads are delivered separately and can be blocked, SSAI embeds ads into the video itself, making adblocking more challenging. However, adblockers like SponsorBlock suggest that while SSAI complicates ad blocking, it doesn't make it impossible, as modern video streaming uses separate video chunks that could still be managed.
