The world is shifting towards sustainable development faster than ever. As an environmental professional, I see the following trends shaping the future: 1️⃣ Circular Economy Adoption: More industries are moving from a "take-make-dispose" model to reusing and recycling resources. 2️⃣ Net-Zero Commitments: Companies are committing to carbon neutrality by 2030, with innovative practices like carbon capture. 3️⃣ Biodiversity Restoration: Focus on ecosystem services and restoring degraded landscapes. I am passionate about contributing to these efforts through my expertise in sustainability auditing, climate adaptation strategies, and environmental management. Let's build a greener future together! 🌿 👉 What sustainability trend excites you the most? Let's discuss in the comments!

The field of sustainability is incredibly "noisy" with what seems like weekly publications of frameworks, roadmaps and strategies to tackle climate change. Even as a sustainability professional, I admit its often hard to keep up. It got me thinking. What could be a succinct mission statement if you will, that can serve as a touch point for me to ensure advice and actions move the needle in the right direction. How about something along the lines of: "Deliver #futureready, climate resilient projects that support transition to a circular economy whilst prioritising Nature based Solutions". Whilst #carbon is not explicitly mentioned, delivering circularity inherently results in low carbon solutions. Nature based Solutions provide cascade benefits that result in climate resilience, improved well being, and support biodiversity net gain to name a few. Thoughts welcome.

Great session sharpening those CO2e Footprinting tools!!!
Last Monday evening, we delved deeper into our September Sustainability Foundations course with Session 2. It was packed with content, breakout rooms and team work, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress made. Progress so far: ✅ Climate Science ✅ Planetary Boundaries ⬜ Systems Thinking ⬜ Doughnut Economics ✅ Drivers for Action ✅ Footprinting (focus on CO2e) ⬜ Targets and Action ⬜ Reporting & Project Presentations After having covered the basics of climate science last week, we went a step further and looked at planetary boundaries. Understood the importance of earth-systems research in keeping us updated on the status of our planet, and ensuring we are focusing our efforts on areas that matter. For the second part of the session, we built on the different drivers for action that we identified last week, and looked at the first steps of action by learning how to footprint. As we have heard multiple times, you can't change what you can't measure, and that is often very true in sustainability. We identified the scope for a product carbon footprint of a car, as well as started an organisational footprint for a chocolate company following the GHG Protocol. Looking forward to next week, can't believe we are already half way!

Our friends at CNaught are conducting a survey to better understand what drives corporate sustainability efforts across industries and company sizes. We’re looking to uncover the actions companies are taking, the barriers they face, and common practices in sustainability initiatives. We would love your help in completing the survey to: - inform industry trends - help provide guidance for companies starting their sustainability journey; and - support professionals advocating for stronger climate goals. https://lnkd.in/eZqgCbDt

For years, corporate sustainability efforts to address the climate crisis have been laser-focused on one crucial target: achieving Net Zero. But is reducing greenhouse emissions and offsetting them enough to secure the long-term health of our planet? Enter the Nature Positive movement—a call for businesses to actively restore and regenerate ecosystems, not just mitigate harm. Despite the significance of the Net Zero target, a Nature Positive approach challenges businesses to expand their thinking and their actions: 🌳 From "do no harm" to actively protecting, restoring, and enhancing ecosystems. 🔄 From focusing solely on emissions to embracing a holistic perspective of nature. 📊 From carbon-related metrics to embracing biodiversity indicators as key metrics. 🌿 From reducing negative impact to enhancing positive Nature-Based Solutions. The shift from Net Zero to Nature Positive is a paradigm shift, placing climate action, biodiversity protection, and nature restoration on equal footing. And for businesses that act today, it represents an opportunity to precisely understand and improve their relation with nature throughout their value chain. Unlock new markets by aligning with a growing global demand for solutions that care for the natural world. And meet the standards expected by nature-conscious investors and environmental regulators. All while playing a vital role in shaping a sustainable and thriving planet. 💚 Is your organization advancing towards a Nature Positive strategy? Atlas, our nature intelligence platform, delivers the data you need to understand your company's interface with nature, make nature-based decisions, and help report your impact aligned with international reporting frameworks.
