Creating Efficiencies by Training... In the past few months I have learned a lot about becoming a leader and a big part of that is learning. This led me to think on the hours that we spend learning and what an impact each training hour makes. I wanted to relay this to the technicians by teaching them that hours spent in the shop learning are ways we create efficiencies for everyday that they spend in the field. Setting up the first of many training sessions to come was a great hit, the guys not only got to learn from myself, but they got to build stronger relationships with each other. This was done by allowing them to show their weaknesses and have other guys give tips and suggestions on how to improve. The day ended with a healthy competition, and a lot of obtained knowledge. The technicians have learned what Guest Plumbing & HVAC standard of work is and how we can ensure it is met on every job. #guestplumbingandhvac #plumbers #hvac

TDP302 Boiler Systems The purpose of this training is to provide targeted knowledge for an engineering system or a piece of equipment. For each technician, we want to lower potential for human error by reducing gaps in knowledge for a specific area of focus. Boiler Basics Terms and Definitions Design Equipment vs. Systems Internal Boiler Components System Layout and Components Efficiencies Today's safety moment has to deal with boiler room safety. There are several hazards that can be present in a boiler room that need special attention- These hazards include high noise levels, moving parts, hot surfaces, dangerous materials, and potential trip hazards. It is crucial to keep up with boiler room care. Boiler room care should include staying on top of lighting needs and cleanliness. Just because the boiler room is often out of sight for many building occupa nts, it should not be neglected for general building upkeep or turned into a storage area. People that enter the room should be aware of the hazards. It is important that access is regulated and that people entering this space have the knowledge to stay safe. Also, be mindful of carbon monoxide risks. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can be deadly. It is a byproduct of combustion and is vented out of the room under normal circumstances. However, it is still recommended to have a carbon monoxide detector in the room and take particular care with tasks that might create a potential exposure. Basic housekeeping is a significant first step in keeping boiler rooms a safe place to work! Work areas should be kept clean and trash removed from the room. There may be cases where custodial staff do not have access to the mechanical or electrical rooms, and coordination is needed for trash removal. Also, keeping a clean boiler room reflects pride in our work. It goes a long way to keep all surfaces painted, too. Some of our clients may not understand all the details of our work, but just about anyone understands a sharp looking mechanical room. #learning #jobtraining #growthmindset #growthopportunities #motivatedmindset #motivatedaily #keepworking #jll #maintenance #propertymanagement #multifamily #maintenancemanagement #propertymaintenance #assetmanagement #training #traininganddevelopment #Energetics #ElectricalMaintenance #Lessons

Entering the field of HVAC-R I’ve had to learn a lot in a relatively short amount of time. To anyone looking to get into this field here are few key areas you should be familiar with to start your career effectively. Here’s a breakdown of what you should know: 1. Basic HVAC Systems Knowledge: • Understanding of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Systems: Know the fundamental types of HVAC systems like split systems, ductless mini-splits, furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps. • Airflow and Refrigeration Cycle: Be able to explain how air moves through a system and how refrigerant cycles between liquid and gas to cool or heat air. • Thermodynamics Basics: Understanding heat transfer principles, including conduction, convection, and radiation, is important for troubleshooting and installation. 2. Safety Protocols: • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Familiarize yourself with the necessary safety gear, like gloves, goggles, and masks, and why they’re important for tasks like handling refrigerants and working with electrical components. • Electrical Safety: Learn to safely work with high-voltage equipment, read electrical diagrams, and use a multimeter. • OSHA Guidelines: Understanding basic OSHA safety regulations for the HVAC industry, including proper ladder usage, confined space entry, and fire safety. 3. Tools and Equipment Handling: • Basic Hand Tools: Know how to use wrenches, screwdrivers, pipe cutters, etc., and identify the tools commonly used in the trade. • Measuring Instruments: Be comfortable using manometers, thermometers, and pressure gauges to diagnose and maintain HVAC systems. • Refrigerant Tools: Understanding how to use recovery machines, vacuum pumps, and charging scales to handle refrigerants according to EPA guidelines. 4. EPA Certification for Handling Refrigerants: • EPA Section 608 Certification: As an entry-level technician, you should have at least the Type I certification for small appliances, but Types II and III are often preferred by employers. • Refrigerant Management: Know how to properly recover, recycle, and dispose of refrigerants to comply with environmental regulations.
