Real leadership demonstrated here by ParalympicsGB, it’s sad that in 2024 we are still tackling these issues. Unfortunately, the word ‘Inclusive’ has become a buzz word for some, and whilst I’m sure many have the intentions to be inclusive all too often we have witnessed children be excluded from sport and/or physical activity in a range of provision from educational through to organisational and community sport. Its important to highlight there are a number of organisations, some national funded partners who say they are going to deliver inclusion but quite simply, they either do this in a ‘limited’ easy to roll out way, or funding is directed to strategic personnel to engage with the existing community clubs in a way that I see as an exercise to extract participation rates from them in a community setting. This can at times seem more frustrating when the same funded organisations apply for additional national funding from sector partners such as National Governing Bodies Its accepted but should not be, as it has potential to double count participation figures should scrutiny panels look deeper into this behaviour. All this whilst our children, in mainstream schools and nestled within our communities miss out on opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity because of the limitations There are some amazing examples of best practice in Northern Ireland with Disability Sport NI, in Bristol with Nova Sport, in the West Midlands with Andy C. Nicola Turner MBE and the United By 2022 team with the #GiftOfTheGames programme and with Geoff Maltby as part of an engagement programme for the 2022 games which resulted in junior development and growth in para/adaptive sports and clubs across Leicestershire. Inclusion should be built in to the delivery system not bolted on! Baroness Sandy Verma #Inclusion #Sport #Community #EqualPlay 🙏🏼❤️

#Japan’s serving Prime Minister, as well as the current President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), #FumioKishida, announced on 14 August 2024 that he will not be seeking re-election as the LDP President after his term ends in September 2024. This means that the upcoming election for the LDP Presidential race on 27 September 2024 will decide a new leader for the party and thus, a new Prime Minister. Excited to share my latest Issue Brief for Indian Council of World Affairs . As the campaigning for the LDP Presidential race begins, Japan's ruling party the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is witnessing one of the most tightly contested and crowded elections in its history. With Fumio Kishida deciding to not seek re-election for the LDP presidential post, he will be stepping down as the Prime Minister this September end, instead of till 2025. His decision also stems from the need to revamp the party and choose a new leader amidst the many scandals that have hit the LDP. It remains to be seen who will helm the reigns of the LDP and become the next Prime Minister. The next LDP leader as Prime Minister is expected to dissolve the national diet and call for a snap elections as soon as possible. Devolution I was as a local Cllr disappointed in this for a number of reasons. 1, I applaud the devolution of power but I question the need for another level of politicians and all the cost and red tape tape this entails. 2, Currently local authorities are pretty toothless entities power wise and frontline Cllrs particularly if your authority exercises the executive model are rather superfluous when it comes to strategic decision making. We not only need devolved power but also increased checks and balances and smarter ways to run the democratic process for Cllrs. 3, A lot of the public I talk to are totally unaware of what power councils have now let alone what might be in the mix. A massive amount of public engagement and information sharing is needed to reassure people and encourage confidence. 4, local politics is just different and we need to ensure different voices are heard. Many councils like my own are coalitions and this should be encouraged. I would love to see Proportional Representation introduced at a local level so people can see the advantages it would bring to building concensus. 5 A lot of people feel that politics is done onto them and have no sense of ownership. There is currently a revolution in different ways to encourage citizen power from assemblies to policy panels and citizen jury’s. Local government has a unique position to act as an incubator for a new citizen led democratic revival and that opportunity should be embraced. We have so many challenges to face from the climate emergency to the poverty emergency and let’s not forget the housing crisis. But I strongly feel we can only begin to seriously tackle these problems when we have faced up to the challenges of our democratic deficit.
“As the Prime Minister set out, those with skin in the game are at the forefront of really making change” Deputy PM Angela Rayner on BBC Breakfast setting out her plans for a new devolution revolution.
