On July 2nd, 2024, the monsoon reached the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab, completing its spread across India earlier than the typical July 8th benchmark.
The monsoon initially arrived in Kerala and the northeastern regions on May 30th, which was two to six days earlier than usual.
Its progress through Maharashtra was steady, but it faltered afterwards, delaying the onset of rains in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. This delay exacerbated a severe heat wave in northwest India.
