Leadership Lessons from IPL 2024 In the realm of both sports and corporates leadership, smooth transitions can be pivotal for a team's success. In IPL 2024, both CSK and MI underwent significant changes with the departure of their iconic captains, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. CSK's transition was marked by transparency and harmony, resulting in Ruturaj Gaikwad's commendable performance as captain and overall team cohesion. Contrastingly, MI's transition was marred by negativity and conflict, leaving Hardik Pandya struggling as captain and the team's performance suffering, ultimately leading to their early elimination. Key Takeaways: Transparency, clarity, and effective communication are paramount during leadership transitions. Overcommunication can mitigate negative sentiments and conflicts within the team. #LeadershipLessons #IPL2024 #CSK #MI #TeamTransitions #EffectiveCommunication #LeadershipTransition #SportsLeadership #TeamCohesion #ConflictResolution #PositiveLeadership

At an event I had the privilege of attending some time ago, Harsha Bhogle shared an insightful story that left me with a lasting leadership lesson. He compared two of India’s cricketing legends—Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni—and explained why Dhoni emerged as a more successful captain, despite Sachin being the more technically gifted player. Harsha recalled the 2008 IPL season, when Pakistani bowler Sohail Tanvir was troubling batsmen with his pace and swing. During a team meeting, the Mumbai Indians gathered to strategize on how to handle Tanvir. There were plenty of suggestions—some said to attack him early, others suggested leaving the deliveries outside the off-stump. Throughout the discussion, Sachin, the captain, was unusually quiet. When he was finally asked for his opinion, he responded with remarkable simplicity: "What’s the fuss? If the seam points inward, it’s an inswinger. If it points outward, it’s an outswinger. Just see the seam and bat accordingly." The room was stunned. Harsha explained that Sachin, being a genius, viewed the game at a level very few could reach. He naturally expected everyone to operate at his level of brilliance. But that’s where Dhoni’s leadership shone through. Dhoni understood that a team is like the five fingers of a hand—each player is at a different level of competence. Dhoni had the ability to adapt his communication and leadership to meet each player where they were, helping them perform at their best. This difference is why Dhoni became a more successful captain. His ability to empathize, connect, and communicate with each player on their terms made him exceptional. Great leadership isn’t about being the most brilliant person in the room; it’s about understanding your team’s diverse strengths and helping them reach their potential. How do you adapt your leadership to fit the unique abilities of your team? #Leadership #Teamwork #CricketLessons #EmpathyInLeadership #TeamDevelopment

Leadership is about inspiring people to aspire to greatness. IPL must’ve introduced us to over 1000 players. Some ended up being superstars, while others faded. Take Shivam Dube for example, the success story of the IPL. In three seasons when he played for RCB and RR, his stats were dismal. Year 2019, Innings 04, Runs 40, SR 121.21 Year 2020, Innings 11, Runs 129, SR 122.8 Year 2021, Innings 09, Runs 230, SR 119.1 After CSK: Year 2022, Innings 11, Runs 289, SR 156.2 Year 2023, Innings 16, Runs 418, SR 158.3 Year 2024, Innings 14, Runs 396, SR 162.3 It isn’t the lack of talent that someone fails. It’s often a lack of the right leaders backing them. Failures and setbacks are part of your journey to victory. Persistence leads to success. Sometimes, with inspiration, you can achieve things that talent alone can’t. #leadership #CSK #MSDhoni #ShivamDube #150DaysOf2024 #150WordsOfWisdom

On Justin Langer AM's birthday today, I am sharing three good leadership lessons that I learnt from him during IPL 2024. These points are not only applicable to the sports industry, but are very useful in any field or organisation, or even in our day to day lives. 1️⃣ KEEP IT SIMPLE: We don't need to complicate things which can easily be done in a simple manner. We will save a lot of time & resources, if we avoid making something complex or too fancy. 2️⃣ DO NOT STRESS FOR THINGS WHICH ARE NOT UNDER OUR CONTROL: In any high pressure work environment, we normally tend to stress out on unavoidable external factors. If you can change the situation, then work on it and if the situation is not under your control, then don't worry much about it. 3️⃣ RESPECT: We must respect everyone inside the team or outside, regardless of how small the contribution of that person may be. Be modest and be respectful of other people's efforts, opinion & time. Happy Birthday JL! #justinlanger #leadership #IPL #indianpremierleague #cricket #lucknowsupergiant #lsg

I read many posts about the #performance of the #IPL teams and also suggestions about what the losing teams can do, to do better and then make it to the playoffs offs etc., My take is that #IPL is pure #entertainment and hence to be enjoyed realtime and not analysed deeply. It is just that #IPL is designed around cricket! #IPL #expert #playoff #coaching #leadership #fun

**A Lesson in Selflessness** Impressive. Remarkable. Unimaginable. No superlative quite captures Shohei Ohtani's latest achievement. If you missed it, Ohtani etched his name in MLB history as the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season. This amazing feat shines even brighter when we consider the hurdles he faced—signing the largest contract in history, overcoming a gambling investigation that cleared his name and returning from injury. The odds were stacked against him yet he triumphed. What struck me most was his reaction. In his moment of glory, Ohtani turned to the dugout and engaged with his teammates. It's a simple gesture that speaks volumes about the essence of true success: it’s not just about individual achievement, but about the collective journey. Don't get me wrong. Personal accolades are valuable, but the shared triumphs with teammates offer a richness that’s unparalleled. Ohtani exemplifies the power of “we” over “me.” Together, we create a legacy far greater than any individual can achieve alone. #Ohtani #Leadership #Teamwork #Success

#RBAquotes #Chelsea’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca, explains that in the first matches under his leadership the team played with a high defensive line more out of habit. He made it clear that it’s difficult to quickly adjust group defensive actions if the players are accustomed to a certain strategy. Moreover, in his opinion, a less aggressive defensive line reduces some of the risks posed by the opponent’s penetrating passes. #football #soccer #footballanalysis #RBAanalysis #EPL #CFC ------------------ Follow us for more insights!

This post is too early and we still have 6-8 months for the IPL mega auction. Everyone is in awe of how SRH performed this season and there are two reasons for it: 1. extraordinary batting 2. extraordinary captaincy Next year we are going to have a mega auction and unfortunately we have to let go of a very good foreign batter or the foreign captain because as per last mega auction rules in 2022 only two foreigners can be retained. We can retain 4 players overall as per 2022 rules. I personally feel it is either going to be Cummins, Klaasen, Sharma and Reddy or Head, Klaasen, Sharma and Reddy. There will be teams with no or one retention with big purses and they will be ready to spend a bomb on Cummins or Head. Most likely, it would be impossible for us to buy them back in the auction. What do you guys think, is the leader more important or the talented batter? #srh #megaauction #leadership #talentretention
