This summer we have had the privilege of having Beau Balizet as our Marketing Intern! 💡 When asked why he chose Hinkley, Beau shared that he was drawn to our family-owned culture. Having experienced the unique environment of a family-owned company before, Beau was eager to join our team. Fun fact: Beau once tackled a 2.5-pound cheeseburger with half a pound of fries in one sitting at just 16 years old! 🍔 #HinkleyStyle #InternSpotlight #HinkleyInterns #MarketingIntern

I’ve talked to a few seniors recently about the transition from student life to the ‘real world’ and I think it’s important for employers to remember that there’s a huge emotional - and often physical - transition process that students go through when they close their course books for the final time. Obviously, there’s the economic issue of ensuring that you have money coming in to pay the bills. But there’s also the personal component of being ripped from a large group of friends, often being dumped into a new city or location, and having to come up to speed with a new day-to-day reality. And yet employers still expect new starters to hit the ground running. That’s despite the fact that even the most seasoned new employee takes 180 days or so to come up to ‘full productivity’. So imagine what it’s like for a student in their first job. It’s little surprise that outstanding students like Arden Jordan would describe the transition as bittersweet. There’s certainly excitement at the start of life in ‘the real world’ but there’s genuine apprehension too. That’s why we created the Boldsquare residency, to take away some of that mystique of the workplace, and not just provide marketing skills to students but also give them a sense of what it will be like to work in an agency environment. The Boldsquare residents will still need to make the adjustment from campus to workplace, but hopefully the shift is faster and more effective. That’s good for employers, and it’s good for new graduates too.
Yesterday was the last day of class for the Boldsquare marketing residency course in conjunction with the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, and we celebrated in the evening with a dinner for the residents. If you needed any further proof that we at Boldsquare are only in this because of the role we want to play in helping students with their careers, we completely forgot to take any pictures whatsoever, and instead got engrossed in chat about summer internships, the cost of housing, wine marketing and whether honey belongs on a pizza (spoiler: it doesn't). Huge thanks go to everybody on Team BSQ for the work you have all done to help make this course such a big success, particularly Katie Powers and Carson Jinks but really everyone on the team played a part in mentoring and advising the residents. And thank you to Christine White, Rena Ishak and Alex Zablah (not to forget Hannah Moore) at the University of Tennessee for their partnership and just general joy to be around. Most of all though, thank you to Alexis McMullen, Arden Jordan, Belle Karnes, Eli Zani, Emma Parson, Kayle McGuire, Kendal K., Leigh Anderson, Lily Maddox, Maci Clark Whisenant, Nick Yurjevich and Shannon Roberts. Your engagement, passion and general eagerness over the past twelve weeks was a joy to watch, and you all have amazing careers ahead of you (some sooner than others!). We couldn't be happier to have you in the Boldsquare family. (and yes, they're pictured here at the start of the residency, happily smiling before we bombarded them with pitches and feedback...) Watch out world, the first cohort of Boldsquare residents are coming for you. And get ready for season two, coming to a university near you in the fall!

Get to know our team! Today we are featuring Lucas Greenberg our summer intern from Case Western Reserve University! What do you do at UH Ventures in one sentence? - I've been interning with Matthew Zenker and the new UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center with their incoming deal flow. I research, analyze, and compile a variety of data and information to assess sports-medicine and health companies/markets to help accelerate and invest in them. I'm also working on the upcoming SportsLand event with Patricia Colella, MBA, by helping out in all areas of event management. What are your favorite things to do outside of school? - I love to exercise and try new workouts, but more importantly, I love to eat. During COVID, I began cooking and baking as a way to unwind; I try to make a meal four times a week. My favorite dish to make is my grandfather’s shrimp and pea risotto. Favorite binge-worthy TV show? - The Office. I have seen The Office over five times and I can quote certain scenes by heart! What is your favorite restaurant in Cleveland? - Batuqui; a fun Brazilian summer dinner spot. What do you love about Cleveland? - I was born and raised all around Cleveland, and throughout my time, there has been one constant: the people. Everyone from Cleveland has a unique and inspiring story, and I love meeting people from around the world. #Internship #HealthTech #Innovation #EventManagement #Innovation #CareerDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth #Cleveland

OMG!!! I'm officially a social media ambassador for Hollister Co. under Abercrombie & Fitch Co. 🥳 Growing up, I remember going into my local mall and wanting to be a commercial model for stores like Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch. But growing up in a predominantly white town, I was shamed for being a woman of color... ... and I was even told by my white classmates that I could never be a model because I'm "too Asian," "too exotic," or "not normal enough." But a few years later, here I am... ...one step closer to one of my dreams of becoming a commercial model :) And in the process, I've learned 3 things: ✅ Don't listen to people who tell you to be "more normal." If you live life trying to please others, you will never be satisfied. So you might as well do what you genuinely love. ✅ Unapologetically pursue the things you want to pursue. Don't let your peers influence your career path. Don't let your parents influence your career path. It's your career, not theirs. And if they don't support your dreams, pursue those dreams anyway because you'll regret it if you don't. It's better be happy chasing your dream than miserable chasing someone else's. ✅ Don't let others' opinions of you shape your self worth. Growing up, I was a huge people pleaser. But I realized...why do I keep pleasing other people at the expense of my personal dreams and wellbeing? So when I stopped listening to others' opinions and unapologetically chased my dreams at full-speed, I started getting the opportunities I wanted. And so can you. ❤️ - With that being said, check out my ambassador storefront with links to my favorite Hollister Co. dresses and clothes that I wear! https://lnkd.in/gWf9kjHK - 🚀 P.S. Want to land your dream internship at a Big Tech company? Apply to Student to Big Tech, a private community where you'll get direct mentorship from me, weekly coaching calls, and a support system of early career individuals who are just as motivated as you to land a spot at a Fortune 500 company. Ready to get your dream offer letter from Big Tech? Like, follow, and comment your email, and I’ll send you the link to the application! ⬇️

This month, I want to 🔦 Spotlight a Summer 2024 Stores Executive Intern. Congrats on your achievements at Target, Gage Knepper! & Thank you for sharing your advice and leadership for future Target Interns to feel connected and flourish. #youmaketarget #targetcareers Becoming a Target team member means joining a community that values diverse voices and lifts each other up. Here, we believe your unique perspective is important, and you'll build relationships by being authentic and respectful. Here we care, grow and win together. ☘ More about Gage ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ 🏫 School - Cleveland State University 🎓 Major - #economics w/ Operations #supplychainmanagement minor 😂 What brings you joy? - trying new foods, listening to music, golfing with friends 🎯 What are you most exited about for the full time role? - To meet the team and learn a new store. That was my favorite part of the internship just getting to know a lot of different people and learn a retail store environment and how much it always changes. 🛒 What are the top 3 items always in your target shopping cart? - Legos, GG Granola, and Redbull 🧐 Tips for future interns - The main tip I have for future interns is to be overly curious. Ask way too many questions and stay curious about all aspects of your role, or others you may think you’d be interested in. ⛳ Fun Fact: I liked this photo because it is one of the only pictures I’ve taken of myself golfing and it happens to be at my favorite course. I played Greyhawk well over 300 times in the 4 years I lived and work there! Joya Lewis Kelly PergramAryn Davlin Steven Gruska Emily Boggs

Famous Fades. Fair Fees. Sitting in my North London barber’s chair at 7 AM, it hit me: many celebrities have sat in this very chair – Steven Bartlett, Anthony Joshua, Daniel Kaluuya, to name a few. Even LeBron James got a haircut here once, though from a different barber. I asked Damon, my barber, what he’s done to build such a recognizable brand. His answer was simple: “We serve the community. No cussing in the shop when there are kids around. If you’re a loyal customer and your father needs a trim, why would I charge him? And every so often, we offer internships to local kids, teaching them an irreplaceable skill and how to become self-employed.” Then it dawned on me – this is why I’ve been coming back for almost a decade. It’s not just the sharp fades or the high-profile clients. It’s the culture. The community-first approach. The fair prices, despite the A-list clientele. In economics, we talk about pricing strategies and consumer surplus. This barber shop has found that sweet spot – a strong value proposition, anchored in authenticity. Check out this amazing interview with Bombas cofounders David Heath about his experience with Cutco & Vector Marketing. - HEATH: "I wasn’t that great in school, so the traditional internship that all my friends were getting—to work at Goldman or Citi or whatever—I was like, You literally couldn’t pay me enough. And those jobs weren’t paying. I saw this ad for Cutco Knives that was like, “Make up to $5,000 a week working 10 hours,” or whatever. It ended up being this amazing sales program. I literally learned the fundamentals of selling, value creation, conveying features and benefits. It built up this skill that I continue to use today as a CEO—when I’m talking to team members, when I’m talking to investors, when I’m talking to partners. Selling is a very, very big component of the CEO job—selling the dream, selling the vision, selling the actual product." #VectorMarketingTrained #vectormarketing #cutcothroughcollege #vectorsuccess
