Understanding HIPAA privacy rules is crucial for parents and guardians, especially when it comes to minors' health care choices. The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides clear guidelines that limit parents' access to their child's Protected Health Information (PHI), ensuring confidential health care decision-making for minors. Key points to note include: Stateside, parents can access the electronic health records (EHRs) of children aged 12 and under, while access for ages 13-17 is restricted to appointments, messaging, immunizations, and allergy care. Overseas, minors aged 15 and older could be considered "mature minors," allowing them to seek reproductive health services independently. Informed consent remains critical, with specific privacy protections varying by state and type of care, such as mental health, pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. Always check your local laws for detailed guidelines. #HIPAA #HealthcarePrivacy #MilitaryHealth #ParentalGuidance #PHI #InformedConsent Read the original article: https://lnkd.in/gs5ZTs5N

"Nine babies have died from whooping cough since November 2023, with cases continuing to rise, the UK Health Security Agency says." This is very concerning ... "The last peak was in 2016, when there were some 5,945 cases." Was in Hospital early 2016, with a young child, do recall hearing at the time many babies were suffering with bronchiolitis, maybe whooping cough was what it eventually was found to be ... "More than half of the 7,599 cases from January to May have been in over-14s, who usually get a mild illness." Now this statement really caught my attention, is that typical or not, will have to look into it ... "The last was in 2016 and there was a major outbreak was in 2012 with more than 9,000 cases, before the introduction of a vaccine programme for pregnant women." They say it is cyclical, but it is probably worthwhile looking at those dates and considering what else if anything could be exerting influence, scientifically considering all factors, could be the best way to find answers ... 🧐 #thinkingaboutthings #justanotherthought #thinkingdifferently #onebigchocolateeg #beavoice #beanecho #dotherightthing #stopthespread #dowehavetolivewithit #circular #donotstareatgoats #whatdoyouthink #wonderlust #wanderlust #wherediditcomefrom #whoknows #cananyonehelp #donotgowiththeflow #dejavu #onebigchocolateegg https://lnkd.in/e2DreQkK

👉 Watch out: Today we continue our "L&R Prevent & Protect Series" and present: Our Pathogen of the Month: Parvovirus B 19 (Fifth Disease) Currently, there is a significant increase in Parvovirus B19 infections in Germany, especially among pregnant women. Parvoviruses 🦠 are small DNA viruses from the Parvoviridae family. They primarily cause fifth disease in humans, a childhood illness. Transmission occurs mainly through droplets from coughing or sneezing 🤧 and contact with contaminated surfaces. Parvovirus B19 infections are particularly dangerous during pregnancy 🤰 as they can lead to severe complications such as fetal anemia or hydrops fetalis (a serious fetal condition). There is no specific vaccine against parvoviruses, so preventive measures like hand hygiene 🧼 and avoiding outbreak areas are crucial. Pregnant women should be especially cautious and avoid contact with infected children. Specific Hygiene Measures: 🧼 Regular and thorough hand hygiene, preferring washing with water and soap over alcohol-based hand sanitizers, as they are not sufficiently effective. 🙌 Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. 😷 Wear a face mask in affected facilities. 🏢 Follow the recommendations for occupational restrictions during exposure. Learn more about prevention and measures against Parvovirus in our article: https://di-ri.co/yTn0f #LRpreventandprotect #LRmed #parvovirus #pregnancy #infectionprevention #prevention

**New Report Released** Sadly a new report from the The Academy of Medical Sciences states we are failing our #children under 5. Key concerns outlined in the report include: 👉🏻 More than a fifth of children aged five are overweight or obese. 👉🏻 Nearly a quarter of five-year-olds in England are affected by tooth decay. 👉🏻 The UK ranks 30th out of 49 OECD countries for infant mortality. 👉🏻 A decrease in the proportion of children having vaccinations. 👉🏻 A rise in demand for children’s #mentalhealth services. “The science is clear – we are betraying our children. Unless the health of babies and young children is urgently prioritised, we condemn many to a life of poorer health and lost potential. The time to act is now.” Repeat: THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW. “We are presiding over a #crisis in children’s health that demands urgent action. As paediatricians, we witness daily the devastating consequences of these systemic failures.” 😢 https://lnkd.in/eYCdYa5N

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐨 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐧 1. Socio-cultural beliefs Some communities believe that colostrum is harmful or that breastfeeding is old-fashioned. This is however not true. Colostrum is the baby's FIRST VACCINE and every mother should ensure her baby gets it. 2. Workplace barriers: No paid maternity leave or breastfeeding-friendly workplaces. When this isn't present, it makes it challenging for mothers to achieve breastfeeding milestones 3. Family and community pressure: Influence to use formula or traditional practices. Some older women will say the baby isn't getting full and a mother might be pressured to prematurely introduce the baby to solids. 4. HIV/AIDS stigma: Fear of transmission through breast milk. But if a carrier mother is well educated and followed up, she can breastfeed her baby without transmitting the disease to her child. Besides the baby can be placed on prophylaxis. 5. Limited access to lactation support: Few trained lactation consultants or support groups. An increase in these will greatly boost breastfeeding rates. #WBW2024 #breastfeedingsupport #breastfeedingbenefits #breastfeedingbarriers

Get Vaccinated Today! At-risk groups : Adults 65 years and older: As one age, the immune system weakens, making older adults more susceptible to the flu and its complications. People with chronic medical conditions: Those with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions are at greater risk for severe flu symptoms. Pregnant people: Pregnancy changes the immune system, heart, and lungs, making pregnant individuals more likely to experience severe illness from the flu. Young children: Children under 5, especially those younger than 2, have a higher risk of developing serious flu-related complications.
