Top Office in Global Recruiters Network 3 Years Running - Finding the Best Candidates for Our Chemical and Plastics Clients
WHO WINS IN HIRING, THE TURTLE OR THE HARE? If I ran a poll on this question, I will bet that the turtle would win. “We have to be patient and find the right person and not make a mistake and dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s.” In my experience as a recruiter, at least for my space of chemicals and plastics, if you want to win, you had better be a hare. Several years ago, we did a study that we turned into a white paper titled The Need for Speed. We recorded the results of our client, a large materials producer with multiple operating sites nationally. Over a 27-month period, they made 12 offers to 12 candidates that we presented. We tracked the time between when we submitted the candidate and when the offer was made. Here are the results: 4 offers extended 20 days or less from submission: all 4 accepted 2 offers extended between 21 and 40 days from submission: 1 accepted and 1 declined 6 offers extended greater than 40 days from submission: 2 accepted and 4 declined Amazing. Offers extended in 20 days or less than submission resulted in 100% acceptance. The “process” takes 40+ days, the acceptance rate dropped to 33%. There are a lot of reasons for this phenomenon. Early 2023 when I entered the job market, a recruiter gave me some amazing insight of what really gets people hired. 1. Make them look good. 2. Make them money. 3. Can you do the job? 4. The chemistry is good. 5. You want the job. Optics are top of the list and above being able to do the job or make the company money. I agree with this list. In fact, I agree so much that I also believe this list needs to be true from the employee perspective. Will this company make me look good? What’s wrong with having equal standards to the company you may be representing? Nobody wants to work for Enron or companies with questionable ethics or managers prone to public embarrassment. Know your worth. Never settle for less.

Learnings from a Zinc TA 🧐 1️⃣ Most of the time I get frustrated with other people, it could have been prevented by better planning from myself. ~ as a small startup everyone has to chip in to the hiring process on top of their already busy full time job. For me, I have had to gradually build a new process that suits everyone and myself and made many mistakes as I’ve been trying to do so. My main turning point in terms of learning has been, everytime I get annoyed at someone else (a hiring manager etc.) I think how I could have prevented the annoyance in the first place. This has informed the curation of my gradually forming process more than anything else. 2️⃣ I work with some incredible people. ~ as I have navigated my way through hiring at scale I have relied a lot on other Zinc employees. Every single person has been incredibly helpful if I ever ask for support and responds with kind and constructive feedback when things don’t go to plan. We are a team and I am so proud to call everyone at Zinc my colleague. 3️⃣ Automation is key. ~ tech is saving my bacon, managing 8 roles at a time I couldn’t live without automations and templates. I will always offer extra feedback if requested but automations mean I don’t have to worry so much about candidates being in the dark.
