In this market, 20% of your retargeting ad budget is wasted on job candidates and competitors researching you. (I made that number up, but please read on...) I really research firms I'm trying to work for. And a large number of them aggressively spend on me, as their digital ads are following me big time. Two reflections: 1- Big opportunity for digital ad and ABM enablement platforms to connect with HR systems to try to reduce spend on targets who were only doing career research. (Is this even realistic/correct as a business or technical goal?) 2 - Honestly, a little schadenfreude for companies that ghosted or rejected me spending money chasing me as as customer when I am not even a tepid lead much less an ICP. You could say that when I am next employed, I may be a possible customer. And I'd definitely consider brands who didn't hire me, but treated candidates right. But what some are forgetting (ghost much?) is that their brand reminders, via retargeted ads, show up for weeks, reminding me of their brands treatment of me. Thoughts?

And, be fair - don't hire Marketers at Managers' rates. Each role brings unique skills. Understand your needs and hire the right person for the job, unless you're working with an agency or someone who can expertly handle both roles.

The biggest things a talent marketer or employer branding pro might find interesting: - 79% of workers satisfied with their jobs...but! 86% somewhat open to other opportunities - remote work and flexibility continue to matter - page 22 has all the reasons you're driving away applicants A passive interest in scoping new roles is where a sound top-of-funnel ad strategy takes center stage. If you're staying in front of your key candidate personas w/ display, social or retargeting, then you're putting yourself in a better situation when that persons interest spikes. It's no different than an ad on Instagram following you around: they know you like bikes, they will show you an ad for bikes, even when you're not buying b/c someday you will be buying and brand awareness and recall matter in that inflection point.
