𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠? 𝐃𝐨 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞? Luke Ylias asked some very relevant questions in response to my post below which I think warrant a real answer. My take (keeping in mind I'm not a Designer): between Game and Product UI/UX Design, there are clear similarities in processes used: research, synthesis, concept, develop, deploy etc. are universal, each involving nominally similar tasks. But there are fundamental differences in purpose, execution, impact and perceived value, which, in practice, make it difficult to transition from Design for Product to Design for Games. Several reasons why: - 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬/𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 #productdesign generally measures success in commercial metrics: user acquisition/conversion/retention, revenue generated, business processes optimized, friction reduced, efficiency, etc. #uiuxdesign for games aims to immerse the user, provide contextual information in support of game or combat mechanics, narrative ambitions, etc. and orchestrate friction in such a way that it provides a ‘fair’ challenge. I suppose you could say that success in this respect centers on 'emotional' metrics. - 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 Research for Product Design identifies opportunities to reduce user pain points/friction, extend the feature set, maximize KPI's and so on In UI/UX for Games, user research informs and influences gameplay/combat mechanics, 3C and level design, game balancing and more - 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Visual treatment in design for Product generally involves language systems that adhere to brand or style guides, and aim to inform users effectively, with clarity and consistency. Assets are typically vector based. In Games, overall visual treatment is subject to the genre and art direction of the game, and is intended to enhance the player experience. Assets required can vary wildly, and are typically (digitally) hand painted. - 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 Product UI/UX Design frequently involves questions of cross-compatibility (browser, Windows/Mac, Android/iOS), n-tier architecture, database/back end integration, etc. Game UI/UX Design considers topics such as performance/latency, controller/input features and mapping, memory usage, engine integration, accessibility, and more Overall, this means that, for UI/UX vacancies that focus on in-game work, we almost exclusively look for candidates whose past experience and portfolio showcase direct familiarity with the type of challenges we're tackling. I recognize that may sound disappointing, but do keep in mind: of course there are also 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑦 areas in the games industry where Product Designers are needed 🙂 #gamejobs

My Current User Experience? Desperately Seeking UX Design Job (But with Amazing Skills!) Anyone hiring a UX designer who can design interfaces smoother than a freshly buffed dance floor? 🤔 My current project involves surviving on ramen noodles and mastering the art of not becoming a human beanbag chair. It's...character-building, but not exactly the kind of experience you put on a resume. Here's the real deal: I'm a highly motivated UX designer with a killer portfolio (seriously, it's fire) and a passion for creating intuitive and beautiful user experiences. I'm a quick learner, a team player, and can probably outlast anyone in a staring contest (useful for those late-night design sessions ). DM me if you have an opening and a sense of humor! 😎 P.S. My ramen noodle consumption skills are negotiable. My design skills, however, are top-notch and non-negotiable. 🍜 #uxdesigner #jobsearch #opentowork #cantstopwontstop #ramennoodlesoptional

I am looking for a GOOD UX or Product Designer. I am looking for a GOOD UI/UX Job, Product Designer Role. I have gotten these messages a lot recently. Companies usually ask me if I know some good designers. I know many amazing designers but I still hear that companies are not happy with the designers as there is a gap in the company's expectations and the designer's skills. Also, what's that GOOD in a designer or in the job you usually look for? If you are a company founder or someone who is actively hiring designers, can you share your opinion on hiring juniors or mid-level designers in recent times? It might be because I wasn't super active in the community and I am totally unaware of this. I am still wondering what the company's current expectations are from junior or mid-level designers. Now, I would love to help and connect if anyone is hiring or looking for jobs. Again, it's not a promise that things will work but I want to keep people close so that I can share opportunities both ways. Let's connect and be open to the opportunities.

Hey y'all! 🌟 Wanted to share some thoughts on job applications, specifically in the UI/UX world. 🎨💻 Lately, I've been seeing a lot of postings looking for a "UI/UX unicorn" – someone who can do it all. 🦄 But honestly, I've started to doubt these kinds of ads. Hear me out! Creative folks, especially those with Fine Arts diplomas, might lost in flows, mapping, and digital architecture. On the flip side, designers strong in UX might get a bit lost in the world of UI and illustrations. I know, I know – creativity has no limits! 🚀 But let's be real and break down these job postings a bit. I've found myself trusting ads that ask for separate UX specialists UI visual designers, illustrators, or 3D/2D artists. It just makes more sense to me. 🤔 Creative people are like Swiss Army knives, but job hunting is easier when roles are a bit more specific. 🧩 What's your take on this? How do you approach job applications in the UI/UX field? 🗣️ #UIUX #DesignTalk #CreativityUnleashed

This is probably my most candid post. I never imagined my life would end up this way, but really, who would? I was laid off six months ago after my position was eliminated. Since then, I have only managed to get three interviews out of the hundreds+ applications I have sent into the void. My unemployment is set to end in a few weeks. My family recently had our EBT benefits taken away (This is what had been guaranteeing our survival) And today, we lost our only vehicle. Our only means of getting around efficiently. We are in dire straits. I have never been so consumed with dread. I have a two-year-old to think of, and honestly, I don't know what to do. I am working on projects to update my portfolio. I am still applying for jobs. I need help. If you have worked with me, know me, know the dedicated and hard-working person I am, and you have a job you think I would make a good fit for, please let me know. I want to work. I want to ensure my family is stable again. I am a Junior UX Designer/Writer. https://lnkd.in/ggsrvCKF My current projects are: Designing an analytics/stats page for a mobile app. Developing a separate mobile app to track specific food data. Creating a small mobile game. All of this working with a developer in my free time. I have the experience, I have the drive, I have the skill. I need a job. #uxjobs #hireme #openforopportunities UX Jobs #juniordesigner #userexperience #ux #uxdesign #userexperiencedesign
