Wow! The response to my post last Friday about open roles in Google Dublin has been incredible, with 27k impressions already! 🤩 Thank you all for the 215 likes 👍, 200+ connection requests 🤝, and the flood of messages 💬 in the last 2 days. To answer some of the most common questions, as don’t have the bandwidth to respond to everyone individually. What I can't help with: ❌ Non-public information about hiring, like when other roles or internships will open. ❌ Information about engineering, program management roles and others as I'm in an ads partner manager role myself (not in recruiting). What I can help with: ✅ I'm happy to share my experience in Ads Sales/Account Management if you have specific questions and a relevant resume. ✅Referrals are powerful, but I will only refer people that I have a direct connection with or who have been introduced by a mutual acquaintance. It's that time! Weekly job search update: Week 3: March 17th to 23rd: Jobs applied to: 24 Rejections: 5 Total jobs applied to: 100 Woohoo! We made it to 100 applications! It is very satisfying to see such a big number after just three weeks! This week was particularly busy as I finished up our final project for my coding boot camp. I also had some family come in from out of town, so I lost one of my evenings, but I still managed to reach 100! I was moved to a technical assessment this week for the first time! It seemed like this may be the company’s standard practice for all applicants, but I performed very well on the test, and I am happy! It was an encouraging and validating experience after three weeks of exclusively rejections. I spent this week mostly applying to jobs I had saved from Startup.jobs, but I also tossed in a couple of jobs I found on Indeed. (Side note: I was told that Indeed is a terrible place to find jobs because so many are fake or expired. Personally, I like to find the job on Indeed, then go to the company’s website to apply there. I’ve found that ~90% of jobs on Indeed are still available on the company website.) Startup.jobs is still my primary path because it has so many options, and I find myself gravitating towards startup positions anyways, but Indeed is a great resource for local positions. Next week looks like I’ll be trying out some new ideas! I received some very insightful advice from a mentor, and my father-in-law, Howard Pflugh on one of my posts this week where I did a quick repost without really thinking much of it. As a software engineer with 30 years of experience, he listed more than a dozen different tips on getting into the industry. One particular thing that really stuck out was his advice to get at least 20 recruiters. This is a path I haven’t really taken yet, and I’m interested to see how it plays out! His other advice is very much worth checking out as well! I’m still feeling confident, this job search hasn’t gotten the best of me, and I plan to keep it that way. I’ve started seeing some of my peers find success, and among those I’ve found an incredible amount of support. I’ve got a solid direction for tools and knowledge to work on if things move slowly, which will just help me become a more successful engineer! Howard's advice can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gnb3STs4

Rejections are just redirections! 🙂 I recently received news from Google regarding my application for the Software Student Training in Engineering Program (STEP) Intern, 2024 - India role. While I didn’t make it through this time, I am grateful for the experience and the opportunity to have been considered. This was my first application, and it has only been 3-4 months since I started college. With no prior experience, I learned how to create a resume and took the initiative to apply. Receiving a rejection is never easy, but I see it as a valuable part of my journey. Each experience, whether it results in success or not, helps shape my career and growth. I appreciate Kimberly McGee and the Google recruiting team for their time and consideration. This isn't the end but a stepping stone. I am more motivated than ever to continue honing my skills and seeking opportunities that align with my passions. Best of luck to everyone else navigating their job search. Let’s keep supporting and inspiring one another! Onward and upward! Comment below for any information regarding Google STEP Program #CareerGrowth #Resilience #TechJourney #Google #KeepPushing

Sr. Recruiter - I build the teams that build the satellites. Recruiting Truth Teller & Mythbuster. Somehow, LinkedIn Top Voice 2022
I remember extending an offer to a Software Engineering Manager at Google. We wen through the crazy lengthy interview process together, survived Hiring Committee, and I was so stoked to get him on board. The candidate turned future hire said "but what about my lack of a degree?" I was confused - "what do you mean?" says I - "we're talking about your offer!" Candidate (who's literally a signature away from being a Googler): "but I don't have a degree". Me: "look - you and me, we're a couple of ancient Gen-Xers who learned by doing. I don't have a degree, you don't have a degree - but we're HERE. Because we KNOW OUR SHIT. We saw your resume, we interviewed you, we want to hire you. Degree, no degree - we don't care!" He signed. Are STEM degrees valuable? Heck yeah. Are they often required and for good reason? Sure. Are you allowed to call yourself an engineer if you DON'T have a degree? If you're doing engineering.... the answer should be obvious 😋 My candidate had about 2 decades in engineering; self-taught, took some courses along the way, and grew his career year over year. One of my most memorable and favorite hires - EVER. Our paths were much different than our younger peers, but we did it. If this (screenshot) reflects your mindset, you didn't really learn much about LIFE while you were getting educated, did ya? (Inspired to share this story by an actual post I stumbled across on LinkedIn. Y'all literally out here saying ANYTHING 🙄 ) #RecruiterLife #STEM #Engineering
