Today, we spotlight our Recruiting Manager, Colton Kirkpatrick's journey with us 🌐 Joined PoT: Q1 2020 -- 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁'𝘀 𝟮𝗻𝗱-𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿! 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆: "It's an early one. When I made my first placement back in 2020, Rob Paone and I hopped on Zoom to celebrate with a glass of Whiskey. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆; 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱." 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: "Man, it's really sweet to watch them improve. Achieving success in recruiting is one thing, and don't get me wrong, that's awesome to watch, but 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? They become better people every day, and that's cooler than any recruiting achievement." 𝗣𝗼𝗧 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱: “𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴." He continued, "We were one of the first to start doing this. Rob and I had never started a company before. 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁, '𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁,' as they say... ... Every day, there was something (new), and every day, we had to adapt, adjust, and keep going. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲." 𝗣𝗼𝗧 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱: “𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱.” He added, "Every single person on this team works hard, plain and simple. 𝗪𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀. This week I celebrated my 5 year anniversary at R2R Global and naturally it gave me a chance to reflect on my time in the world of recruitment to recruitment. In our Monday morning sales meeting our Global MD Matthew Gostelow asked me for one piece of advice that I’d give our team after 5 years in the business and nearly 10 years in the industry as a whole. There are more than a few lessons I can share and endless war stories but the biggest piece of advice I would give someone starting out in the recruitment industry is to never be afraid of feeling uncomfortable! Embrace it. Take on scary new challenges because that’s when you grow the most both professionally and personally. I joined R2R right at the start as the firm’s third hire and I’ve watched the business grow into a team of 30 placing candidates all around the world. I spearheaded the launch and growth of a brand new business in R2R NYC, built multiple practices from scratch on both sides of the Atlantic and have trained and developed teams of exceptional people. Every time I’ve tried something new, there’s always been that feeling of anxiety and nervousness that comes with taking on any big challenge. But what I can say is it’s been an incredible journey over the last 5 years. We’ve never shied away from taking risks and definitely haven’t stayed within our comfort zone! And whilst there’s always going to be ups and downs, I’m so glad we’ve taken those risks because we wouldn’t be where we are today without doing so. So that’s my one piece of advice after a decade in the industry – get comfortable feeling uncomfortable!

Q: What makes your work day exciting? A: I love working with all my co-workers, and each day brings a new opportunity to grow and learn. Q: What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation? A: Pickleball, cornhole, or raising chickens. Q: What's one thing you've learned from your coworkers that you're grateful for? A: I’ve learned that it's possible to work hard AND play hard. Being part of a team that is dedicated to achieving our goals while also taking time to celebrate successes, whether big or small, has been truly rewarding. Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A: A professional dog walker… or any type of pro athlete. Q: How many different states have you lived in? A: With the biggest cup of coffee imaginable. Q: What’s your favorite inspirational quote? A: “Choose to be kind over being right, and you’ll be right every time.” — Richard Carlson, author of "Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff — and It’s All Small Stuff" Q: How do you wind down after work? A: Taking a moment in my driveway before entering the house to reflect on both the positives and negatives of the day. I believe it's important to celebrate even the smallest victories and to also allow myself time to process any negatives and find ways to learn from them. This helps me prevent the negatives from lingering into the next day. Also, any day that I can go play Pickleball after work is a huge plus in my book! Q: What job would you be terrible at? A: Anything that involves public speaking. This past week marked my 10 year anniversary at Futureheads 😲 🤯   10 years in any company is a great stint, but 10 years in one recruitment business is a rarity.   Anyone who knows me will know I’m driven by the pursuit of excellence, and being able to offer authenticity and meaningful value in all my interactions.   As I often advise organisations to do themselves, I wanted to celebrate my decade by highlight the reasons I’ve stayed at FH all these years (apart from them having me 😜)   ⭐ Genuine market knowledge. As a technologist myself, being able to work in a business where everyone actually understands the disciplines they hire for and are active members of the community is invaluable. ⭐ People first. Recruitment can be a cut throat space, with poor practice and staff not getting the support they deserve. FH has always been about developing talent, seeking diversity of thought and being an inclusive place to work, things I am personally passionate about.     ⭐ High performance and progression. I didn’t get into recruitment to make up the numbers. I’ve been fortunate to have performed at the highest level for a number of years as a consultant, manager and director, with the business affording me the platform to do so. ⭐ Fun. I like what I do, so being able to enjoy my role, have a laugh, work with people who share the same values and getting to experience things I would not have been able to in other paths has been amazing.   A massive thanks to my founders Be Kaler Pilgrim Gill Arnold Rachel Murray (Brierley) and Charlie Hoult. Nathan Callaghan who brought me in and managed me until only recently, and all the FH + SyncD team current and former 🤟🏽 .   Also a big show of appreciation to everyone I’ve had the chance to work with over the past decade. Hopefully I’ve been able to have a positive impact on your careers and lives to date.
