Self-owned data centers and IT equipment are a major source of energy usage and carbon emissions for enterprises. According to the International Energy Agency, worldwide data centers collectively consume 200 to 250 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity, accounting for 1% of all global electricity demand and about 0.3% of all global carbon emissions. A modernization strategy that shifts workloads from on-premises data centers to cloud can reduce energy consumption and associated carbon emissions by nearly 80% and is up to five times more efficient than the typical on-premises data center (source- cio.com). 🎉 Celebrating a Decade with Siemens! 🎉 This week marks my 10-year anniversary at Siemens, a journey that has spanned three totally different businesses: Corporate R&D, Siemens Infrastructure, and now Siemens Mobility/Hacon. It’s been an incredible decade of innovation & new products, collaboration, and growth. Starting in Corporate R&D, I was fortunate to work on groundbreaking projects, like the autonomous tram, leveraging new interaction technologies to create innovative (digital) products. This role laid the foundation for my career, teaching me the importance of continuous learning and the power of curiosity. Transitioning to Building Technologies, I was challenged to apply my skills in a new context, developing digital solutions that enhanced the efficiency and sustainability of buildings and the productivity of the people in them. Here, I learned the value of adaptability, how to build a globally scalable business from the ground up, and the impact of technology on everyday life - while always focusing on creating value for people and pushing boundaries! Now, in Mobility, I am proud to contribute to the evolution of transportation, developing apps for millions of users everyday that are transforming how we move. Working with amazing colleagues and leaders across these diverse sectors has been a privilege and an endless source of inspiration. Some core learnings from my 10 years at Siemens: 1. Innovation is Key: Embrace new technologies and methodologies. The digital landscape is ever-changing, and staying ahead means constantly evolving. 2. Collaboration drives Success: Working with talented teams has shown me that collaboration, diverse perspectives and critical discourse lead to the best solutions. 3. Leadership is About Empowerment: As a leader, I’ve learned that empowering others, fostering a culture of trust, and supporting continuous development are crucial for success. As important as building out your own resilience! 4. Adaptability is Essential: Each role at Siemens required me to step out of my comfort zone.
