Sometimes when editing a film there can be performances that, for whatever reason, are better in one take over another. And so compositing can come in to help marry the clips together to have the best of both worlds. #vfx #compositing

Thinking I’m going to have to start making ‘fake’ commercial work videos. Fake in the sense that I’m not getting hired by anyone because I don’t have examples of work I’ve been hired by people from. So sizzle reels and trailers for fictional shows

Restoring a photograph of my great-grandparents. I tried scanning it normally but there’s a lot of creases and loss of detail, so I tried a technique I’ve heard used for film restoration, scanning it in a water bed. I sat the photograph face down onto water I put on the scanner glass and it worked really well. It might have been slightly blurrier with the water, but what I gained with the photo being dewarped, and the contraction of some of the creases is so much more valuable. Then I used photoshop and removed all the dust and scratches with the spot heal brush with some AI generative fill for the big damage and edges, then a series of curves adjustments to bring out the detail in the faces, and I think this is a very successful restoration. I will be printing out this new version and attaching the original damaged one onto the back.

I've been unemployed for 7 months now, still applying for many jobs, mostly minimum wage ones and not even getting them. It's been really tough and not exactly clear what is going wrong. I had an interivew and hour trial shift for Tesco night shifts but was told that I lacked experience with retail and working at night, so I assume there's never any new workers for that entry level job. It's all very frustating, but I'm trying to continue to apply, and in the meantime doing the occasional freelance VFX job.

I was recently hired to create a VFX shot for a short film. The brief for this shot was a 60s looking effect, so I simulated the train hanging from wires, used camera tracking to make the camera move more organically, and I purposely added the thick black matte lines around the train to make it look like an optical printing effect. The background was created with video feedback, pointing an analog camera at my tv. https://lnkd.in/evKQc87Y

Back in 2021 for Uni I made an interactive film pitch for an interactive time travel film. I really enjoyed making that God and Devil photo. A massive issue with the project was that every action created at least two paths, so it was exponentially growing. And then I did a nice front and back cover to fit a interactive book asthetic. Really want to start new projects and make a new pitches like this.

A fun use of VFX is silly memes. Here's a CG paper with William Hartnell stuck to a mascot doing some fighting.
