🌍⚽ Exciting Shift in English Football: The Americans are Powering Up! From Cumbria to Crawley, U.S. investors are fueling a surge in EFL clubs. 22 out of 72 teams in the Championship, League One, and League Two now boast American ownership or minority investors. Notably, 14 clubs have secured fresh investments since Wrexham's headline-making takeover in February 2021. 📈 While we've witnessed investment waves from China and the Middle East, the Americans have truly embraced the English football pyramid. A key driver? The growing trend of U.S. investors channeling funds into the world of sports. 💼 With American sports team franchises typically out of reach for all but the wealthiest, EFL clubs provide a more accessible entry point into this exciting realm of investment. Leeds, Huddersfield, Portsmouth, and Wrexham are just a few clubs enjoying the American touch. This surge of American investment is reshaping the traditional football pyramid, injecting new energy into English football. ⚽🇺🇸 📷: Leeds United Football Club Official Website #EFL #FootballInvestment #USInfluence #SportsBusiness

“Ask a lifelong support of a club if they’d be willing to drop their club or walkaway, because of the policies their club endorses – most would find it very hard. But as the younger generation of fans come through, those who are not born in the city/town of the club they support, attitudes are changing. Recent research indicates that young fans follow players more than clubs – all of a sudden this umbilical between club and supporter is no longer permanent” Do you agree? In module 2 of the Introduction to the Football Industry online course, we look into this further. https://lnkd.in/dr3RHrS

An absolute pleasure. The conversion was rich in solutions rather than a perspective of reactions. Often we look to mitigate the impact of society on our young people. Rather than looking to remove any barriers that they may face. It was great to get back to the core, with a group of individuals who which to use sport, not only as a mechanism for a professional avenue, but more to draw away the skills that sport teaches us. Having played full time football and part time in non-league. Even being lucky enough to move onto the Conference. All whilst running a business. Sport has taught me the following: - hard work is not negotiable, - just because you like something it doesn’t make the grind any easier, - resilience is a must in any walk of life, - team work is essential to build morale and culture, - you must be willing to pick others up around you where they need a helping hand. These are the same principles that I have applied to life and here at Bouncing Statistics whilst I wish for young people to learn these vital skills and values also.
Brilliant meeting Rackeem Reid yesterday discussing all things young people, the challenges they face and the power that sport has to level the playing field, and to hear about their brilliant work Bouncing Statistics. Really thought-provoking conversation about being evidence-based in our approach and authentic in our direction as we look to put plans in place for our upcoming football and education programme Birmingham United for the 24/25 season. Looking forward to working together to positively impact the lives of young people in our city.

Chelsea Football Club's new youth-development approach ⚽🏴 Chelsea FC are switching their approach to academy football under the guidance of co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. Owners Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly are pushing for a seamless integration of the academy and first team, ensuring youth development and recruitment work hand-in-hand to feed the first team. By significantly increasing investment in youth recruitment, Chelsea aims to produce first-team-ready players directly from the academy, minimizing the need for loan spells, which had been central to the club's youth strategy in the past. Using Eyeball can facilitate the uncovering of potentially first-team-compatible footballers for your academy, applying stat filters and utilizing custom sorting to search through the database of 148K+ players on the platform for the prospects most suited to your club. The trend of American investment in English football is gaining momentum, with US ownership now extending to over a third of the 92 professional teams in England’s top four leagues. High-profile stakeholders include Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady, who are bypassing pricier investments in the US's Major League Soccer to tap into historic brands and potential value in England. Wrexham, co-owned by Reynolds, has seen a Hollywood-worthy rise, securing promotion to the English Football League for the first time in 15 years. Chelsea's new owner, Todd Boehly, and his consortium have also made headlines, taking over from Roman Abramovich. However, despite significant financial commitment, immediate success has been elusive, highlighting the complexities of the football business. Yet, not all fans are on board with this shift in ownership. Some have staged protests and confronted owners at games, reflecting a resistance to the perceived commercialization of their beloved clubs. What are your thoughts on this trend ? Do you see it as a positive development for English football, or are you concerned about the potential implications ? Let's discuss. https://lnkd.in/edYs7-66
