This overview by George Zarkadakis from Syndesis Health on AI in health/ medicine is worth reviewing if you are keen to become familiar with concepts and application. I am particularly interested in how AI can help monitor, manage and maximize outcomes (health, cost effectiveness) for people living with chronic conditions, including how to predict early stage disease and prevent further decline. With disparate datasets in the past this concept was probably a pipedream; with AI I think it’s entirely possible.

🌟 Innovative Breakthrough in AI Technology! 🌟 🧠 AI continues to revolutionize the field of healthcare with its remarkable capabilities. In a recent study by MIT, researchers have developed a groundbreaking AI method that captures uncertainty in medical images, paving the way for more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. 🔍 This innovative approach not only enhances the reliability of medical imaging but also provides clinicians with valuable insights into the uncertainty associated with each diagnosis. By quantifying uncertainty, healthcare professionals can make more informed decisions and tailor interventions to meet the specific needs of each patient. 💡 At Decision Science Alliance (DSA), we recognize the immense potential of AI in healthcare decision-making. By harnessing the power of data-driven insights and cutting-edge technology, we strive to empower healthcare professionals with the tools they need to deliver optimal patient care. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e-nygwAY #AI #Healthcare #Innovation #MedicalImaging #DecisionScience #FutureTech #MIT Never miss a post from DSA and its IDA, the voice of DSA! With the rise of smart hospitals and smart healthcare, personalized medicine, improved diagnostics, and better patient outcomes have become realities. As AI is taking center stage here, there is another element that is crucial for trust: Explainable AI (XAI). Traditional AI algorithms/ models produce results without explaining the reasons behind them. This lack of transparency is disconcerting, especially in a healthcare setting. Doctors and patients must understand how AI has arrived at a recommendation or decision. Only then, the stakeholders in the ecosystem can make informed decisions without worrying about biases. Explainable AI (XAI) is the answer to this. It can help doctors in improving diagnosis by explaining the reasons behind its diagnosis. When patients understand the reasoning behind AI-driven decisions, it fosters shared decision-making. For example, when XAI is used in imaging analysis and it explains why the AI system flagged a particular abnormality in an X-ray or scan, doctors can prioritize areas of concern. In another example, if XAI can disclose the factors influencing an AI's drug recommendation, doctors can consider the patient's medical history and potential drug interactions. As XAI technology continues to develop, it has great potential to revolutionize healthcare. It can help in strengthening the human-AI partnership and can also ensure responsible AI development. #XAI #AI #SmartHealthcare #SmartHospital #HealthIT

Could AI Put Clinical Knowledge at Risk? — Viewpoint warns relying on AI for basic tasks may undermine physicians' skill sets Depending upon who you converse with, there are definite real benefits as well as dangers in utilizing AI in medical care. One concern is the malpractice risk associated with a potentially inaccurate diagnosis made with the assistance of AI. This article raises an interesting point as follows: Will AI contribute to physicians potentially losing some of their knowledge and skills in medicine. Not being able to understand how an AI came to its conclusions is known as "black box computing " Fogo and colleagues noted that if medicine gets to "a stage where output is defined in the black box that is fed by input, and this black box contains constructs that are no longer consistent with previously defined entities, most of today's knowledge on disease mechanisms will be forgotten, and we will be ruled by systems that only focus on intervention strategies that will provide the best possible outcome." It certainly will be interesting to see the day to day role of AI in medicine moving forward. #AI, #practiceofmedicine, #diagnosisaccurate, #clinicaldecisionsupport, #betteroutcomes, John Williamson https://lnkd.in/e-2sQD3z
