Is the Trade Show, as we know it, dead? According to HLW Senior Associate, Alison Grant, it is! In recent years, there’s been a shift from large-scale out-of-town exhibitions to sustainable local events. Emerging shows like Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design and London’s Clerkenwell Design Week are quickly rising in popularity due to their low-environmental impact, and accessibility beyond interior design professionals. The underlying promise is a future in which interior design shows uphold storytelling and inclusivity, over commercial gains. For the first time in our industry, will sustainable, experience-rich events eclipse the traditional trade show? ⭐️ Embracing Transformation 🤗 In the dynamic pallette of interior design, the only constant is change. As an interior architect, I've come to understand that our philosophy must evolve alongside shifting trends, technologies, and societal needs. Gone are the days when design was solely about aesthetics; today, it's about creating spaces that prioritize wellbeing, sustainability, and human connection. With each passing year, I've witnessed a profound transformation in the way we perceive and approach design. From the minimalist trends of the past to the current emphasis on biophilic design and holistic wellbeing, the evolution of our craft has been nothing short of remarkable. But it's not just about following the latest trends; it's about embracing change as an opportunity for growth and innovation. As interior architects, we're tasked with not only staying ahead of the curve but also redefining it. This means constantly seeking new ideas, experimenting with unconventional materials, and challenging traditional norms. But perhaps the most important aspect of this evolution is the recognition that design is not just about creating beautiful spaces; it's about improving lives. Whether it's through the incorporation of sustainable materials, the promotion of inclusivity, or the creation of spaces that inspire creativity and productivity, our ultimate goal is to make a positive impact on the world around us. So let us embrace this era of transformation with open minds and open hearts. Let us be pioneers of change, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and reimagining the role of design in shaping a better, more sustainable future for all. Check out this blog by biophillic interior designer Nicla Diceglie about the importance of nature in the built environment
🌿 What an Inspiring Day at the First-Ever Biophilic Design Conference! 🌿 On November 12th, I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Biophilic Design Conference organised by Vanessa Champion PhD, Journal of Biophilic Design at the beautiful Barbican Conservatory in London. The event brought together architects, designers, and advocates to explore how nature-inspired design can transform our lives, homes, and workplaces. From Oliver Heath's powerful keynote to fascinating insights on sensory design and salutogenic spaces, the day was packed with inspiration and practical ideas for creating environments that enhance well-being, productivity, and sustainability. One highlight for me? The talk on sensory design for neurodiversity, which showed how we can use biophilic principles to create truly inclusive and calming spaces. This conference reminded me why I’m so passionate about biophilic design—it’s not just a trend, it’s a movement for a healthier, happier future. Want to dive deeper into biophilic interiors? Check out my blog for all the highlights from the day! 💚 🔗 Read the blog here https://lnkd.in/dWZ5P8Hf #BiophilicDesign #BoldBiophilicDesign #InteriorDesign #Wellbeing #Sustainability #biophilicdesignconference
